The new exterior handles just look black. It was the absolutely #1 item that needed a redesign on the Model S. I hope they're different.
The created a version 3 not all that long ago that has more robust, simpler and far less expensive. If that proves out to be what they claim it to be then there's no reason to abandon one of the items that made the Model S popular. To this day, people are still amazed when we walk up to it and the handles come out even though the design is coming up on a decade old now.
Okay...and your point being? Are you parked in a garage constantly? It is a design flaw that occurs when temps hit a certain threshold. I’m sure no one in California experiences it. But that does not mean it isn’t an issue.
You're welcome to extrapolate whatever you like from that factual data point. I would suggest that, at a minimum, it offsets your small sample size and forces a larger conversation of just how common of a problem it is. I never said it wasn't an issue, that was you. As to where I'm located, it's listed right under my name: Colorado. I wish I was in SoCal and didn't have winter but, as I'm sure you can gather, we do see some winter conditions occasionally in the Rock Mountains. If my cars never left the garage... what would be the point of owning a car?
So you have a garage. That’s why your handles don’t freeze overnight. Try parking outside on a city street and let me know how it goes for you. I’m guessing the anecdotal sample size skyrockets to two sets of frozen door handles.
You're right. None of my Model S's have sat outside overnight in freezing temps & wet conditions. /sarcasm Enjoy your Model 3.
Now you're telling me to move along? How is my post any less relevant than yours on this topic? You should learn how to interact with other humans in a respectful manner.
I've never had my door handles fail to present due to ice. The windows failing to roll down though, that has happened multiple times. Always nerve-wracking to force it open.
Can't stand the presenting door handles. Excessive number of times they have frozen in and failed to present, or just plain failed. Same goes with the frameless doors, and frozen windows not lowering to get doors open, even after 30+ minutes of preheating and cooking the car. And on the Model S, preheating or using the HVAC at all, actually forces air out through the doors to help keep the handles thawed.
No, they aren't! The only difference is that they've been polished in black. Tesla still remains adamant to this day, as it still provides those so-called futuristic door handles, which retract and extract only by sensing whether the key fob is nearby. "Auto present" is what they call it. And I did read it out about somewhere that there have been accidents wherein the commuter was trapped inside after it and the rescuers outside could do nothing to open the door.
welcome to the forum. I spent some time on here years ago before I bought my model S however, that being said, references to "someone once said" won't really cut it. If you want to give a reference we might be interested in hearing it. But having driven mine around for over 200,000 miles, I don't think that you've got a legitimate position there. Good luck on your future purchase of a Tesla
New door handles are much simpler and less prone to break, but they require a software something to get them to operate properly. Meaning... good luck DIY door handle replacements.
