have vin# of 2016 S P90D for sale / can it tell me SC01 or not?

Hello. It is not possible to tell by VIN. Even if the car originally had SC01 (for example, sold <= 2016), trading it into Tesla may remove SC01 and convert it to SC05 (I don't have the dates available when this started).

Your best bet is to instruct the seller to pull the option codes from a web browser while logged into his account. There are posts on here describing how to do this.

Since it's a 2016, if the seller can prove that the seller is the original owner since new, you should be safe with FUSC. FUSC is lost when the car is returned to Tesla via trade-in or end of lease, prior to the next sale.

That is literally how you determine it, if you have a connect at Tesla.

Private party or dealer?

If private party they can log into their account on the Tesla(dotcom) site, and can verify that it has (or not) FUSC.
