Hello.
I'm trying to connect HDMI Box to the Model S 2012. This car does not have chassis can bus on OBDII connector and i tryed to connect can bus decoder directly to chassis can bus, but camera switching does not happen. Any ideas or solutions?

So you did or did not plug the can bus decoder into the OBD2 connector?

Yes, i connected can bus decoder to the OBD2, but in old cars there is no can bus in OBD2 connector, accordingly, I had to connect directly to the can bus. The buttons on the steering wheel are connected to the Gateway via the LIN bus, then the gateway transmits this data to the can bus. But in older cars (until about 12.2014) button presses on the steering wheel are not transmitted to the can bus. I checked on 2 cars in 2012 and 2013, not one worked. S P85D 2014, S 70D 2015, X P90D 2016, working well.

There is no Chassis Bus Pin (CAN 6) on the OBD port for vehicle manufactured before Jun 2013, therefore, you need to have a custom made “TDC to OBD cable” in order to make the switching works. We have custom made the cable and it is US$15

For switching mechanism on AP0 Model S, only the cruise stalk can perform the switching function (no CAN 6 on the steering wheel). Here is the video link DYI

Did you try pulling the cruise stalk to switch to HDMI? (With the cruise light OFF onthe stalk.)

Oops, just noticed the previous response.

For those of you that have this installed, do you take it apart/remove it before going into a SC? Need to get my car in for a few minor things, and the new AP3 module if available. Any advice?

I did not remove it when I went in for the airbag recall and alignment. I'm not sure they even noticed the extra cameras.

Yah but I wonder if they're doing the AP3 retrofit, they're obviously going to see the module and new connectors down there. :/

I've been ignoring vehicle warranties all of my life and have never had a problem. If it really concerns you though, you probably shouldn't do it then. :)

They probably will unplug it, but since there have been no modifications that are permanent, I wouldn’t worry about it. That upgrade will take some time for me anyways :(

I doubt it. The only physically noticeable features about the install are the four cameras mounted outside the car. Other than that, when the unit isn't turned "ON", it's undetectable on the screen and all buttons/switches/rollers work as OEM dictates. Unless a technician asks, he'll probably never know how to access those extra cameras... unless he's familiar with the setup and its operation or you tell him.

Is it possible to activate this on an AP0 car without using the cruise control pull? My car as Openpilot installed and I don't want it switching to video every time I engage the autopilot system.

I'm not sure about an AP0 car that's been converted to OpenPilot. You can try a long press (1 sec) on the menu button (right side of steering wheel) as in an AP1 car to see if that works. If not, since your car's computer has been rooted/jail-broken/hacked, you can try long-pressing other buttons to see what happens.

That is a "no it doesn't work" then. I have AP0 steering when and stalks. I haven't reprogrammed my car's buttons to do random things. Al I have is a 3rd party autopilot system plugged in to the OBD port in the same way this device plugs in, that uses the same double pull mechanic to work as openpilot. Openpilot works without root, so this is a question about AP0 in general because I can't use the double pull safely.

I was hoping I could buy an HDMI box, but it sounds like it is incompatible with openpilot if it requires people to reprogram other buttons (I don't think that is even possible). Is there a built in long press that works on AP0? Is there a physical toggle button I can use instead of the cruise stalk?

This works with OP, Are you on our discord?

I have this and OP and everything works.

For anyone else with AP0 and openpilot, I talked this out with Tony and the HDMI box is incompatible. You have to replace the steering wheel column and steering wheel buttons with AP versions and reprogram the car - I can't do that so it won't work unless I stop using openpilot.

@BearBu - is it possible to make the AP0 stalk actuation work with 2 pulls the other direction? We use the "towards driver" double pull but we don't use a "away from driver" double push for anything - is it possible to make this work with openpilot by changing the double pull direction? Can I reprogram it for a custom just-me actuation method? I want the HDMI but I use camera while driving and video any time I use AP isn't just unsafe it is illegal.

Interested in this as well. Currently use OP but would like the HDMI box on my AP0 Car...

Ive been noticing some strange behavior recently with this box. Is it possible Tesla is now looking for the long-press button on the CANbus and causing problems in the operation of the MCU or seeing the data on the CANbus and getting confused?
