Headrest bubbling and other issues, theories and testing

Looks like a clear warranty issue to me. Just bring it in and they'll fix it.

Sadly, both my mobile tech, and two service centers said it wasn't.

Update: Tesla replaced it under warranty!!!!

So what changed? I mean, I like being right, but I'd like to understand why it was difficult.

Different mobile tech, sad it looked absolutely horrendous, and had never seen it before and wanted to swap it so he could send it in to be examined. Alas I can’t do my own experiment now

Wow. Something like this shouldn’t be left to the discretion of a mobile tech.

Same thing happened. My girlfriend noticed it one day when I was driving. Just scheduled a mobile service on Friday morning. Will see what they say.... Probably need some kind of cover for my seats to prevent this in future.

If they don't want to replace it under warranty, send them the OP's VIN or invoice # and a picture of his and I bet they magically cover it.

My Model 3’s driver side head rest seems to be in the early stages of doing this too. I don’t use any hair product and my hair isn’t greasy. So far my headrest has a mild bubble-like protrusion right where my head makes contact with the headrest. The passenger side headrest is still like new. I have 10,000 miles on my 3P Stealth. Not sure if I need to do anything about this just yet but it’s definitely a disappointment.

I purchased one off eBay. They are priced between $110-$175. I might see if a local shop can repair it and use leather for all of it or perhaps just the part against the head.

It’s my wife’s car. She doesn’t use harsh hair product. But frequently drives with wet hair. I’m wondering if it’s extended moisture?

I didn’t submit to Tesla for warranty.

Lol. I have had one black and one white. Other than this headrest issue, it sure is nice to just wipe down the black and good to go...
