Maybe they are when the car is on and driving but definitely not when the car is parked or inactive. Forward facing cameras is definitely heated when the car is parked.
I assume you turned on climate control and it's not always heated?
This just proves the car is looking at you more than you are looking at it.
Your M3 couldn’t see out the window, so it turned on the front camera defroster so it could see you coming.
This is kind of weird in my opinion. Why would it always be heated like that?

The area with the cameras is all black, has an enclosed airspace, and is topped with glass. It's basically a tiny greenhouse.
It probably just stays warmer than the rest of the windshield while the sun is out.

Maybe, I am behind the times but I was not aware that the forward facing camera was heated. Pretty cool!

Definitely has a heater. If you look closely at the windshield glass over the camera box you can see the heat element lines
