Help - I don’t accept this car - Tesla won’t take it back

I think that's the difference between you and the majority. You had a checklist, knew where to get said checklist and did your due diligence. I am unsure if majority of buyers does the same. They likely are expecting a Tesla rep to go over it.

You are the first (and only) person I have ever seen report that someone from tesla actually let them drive the vehicle, before accepting it. I dont read reddit or anything though, so I dont know if that has been reported anywhere else, but I havent seen that reported by anyone here before.

Plenty have been allowed into the car to inspect it before delivery though, even though that seems to be "not the standard policy".

None of us were there with this OP so we dont know what happened, but I suspect that the viewpoint of the person delivering the car, and this OPs viewpoint are different, for the same interaction.

What I mean is that the OP (who self identified as "flustered" during this interaction), may feel like the delivery person rushed them, or even accepted on their behalf when they didnt want to, while the delivery person probably saw this the way @Unclepaul said in post #41, as "helping someone confused get access to the car".

The car I got in 2019 pre pandemic they left me inspect and drive the car around a locked yard before leaving with the car. Any issues that could be resolved while there would have been. Anything more complicated would be added to a service checklist and handled later OR I could give the car back.

However paperwork had to be signed, trade in processed and car paid for before they even let me out into the yard.

This was late 2019 and this have changed.

I took the car issues in hand and they were resolved later.

This isn't a "whole lot" different from say me ordering a Porsche where when in comes in from Germany / US Port where I either take it with flaws and they fix it later or I wait months for another one. Either way I had to pay deposit and sign off on financing in advance.

Upon visual inspection the car is perfect. I have not driven it. It’s about how I was treated - can’t get over it. Will sell it or give it away to charity if I can’t get what I paid for it. That way I convert a bad experience to something good.
I too had a terrible delivery experience. I had to pay fully before they would ship the car 600 miles to my house. They didn't deliver it to my house, they delivered it to the other side of town. Then they dropped it off at the wrong place on the wrong day and I had to walk a half mile in the rain to get the car. There was only one key. I wasn't given a chance to look at the car. I was told "take it or leave it, I've got to go".

In my case it was clear this wasn't a Tesla employee. They worked for the company that shipped the car. For me, the anger and resentment at being treated so poorly quickly faded and was replaced with the joy of Tesla ownership. Your mileage may vary greatly. If selling the car is the best way for you to feel better about the situation then, of course, I support your decision. Some of the people hired by Tesla or contracted by Tesla are jerks. This doesn't mean the company itself is terrible.

This thread is strange.. While the initial post is believable the follow posts are straight nonsensical.

Donating a car because someone clicked accept on a vehicle you ordered and wanted?? Just sell it and move on
She even has the Wall Connector installed in her garage looking at her photos from her FOR SALE thread.
This reaction to the delivery is crazy.

This experience is pretty common with home deliveries from the sounds of it. Labor is getting expensive and pretty sure there's not a line of people wanting to be tagged with the task of home delivers (I could be wrong). When I received our car last week, the person delivering the car was very young but very polite. He was also training someone to do their 1st delivery and asked her when they were waiting for their uber to pick them up if she was comfortable to do her own (She said no). I can assume that was her first day and unsure what type of training their received prior to. The more "veteran" delivery person had 15 deliveries under his belt...they were to target about 10 deliveries per day for the both of them. Going to assume it's 5 per day average so the guy has done around 3 days worth. Their team was to hit 200 deliveries just on that day alone...

To me that's still pretty fresh, not like they have been doing it for months or years. They were both pretty shy and barely said anything unless I asked them questions. They didn't pin point any issues unless I asked about it. I asked them about the big chip on the spoiler area and they said that they've never seen that before and they themselves have reported it to their manager when they found it BUT they didn't tell me until I had asked. It also sounded like the folks delivering the cars are also the folks prepping the cars, as in cleaning it inside and out.

Fortunate that I did a bunch of research on the car prior to delivery and had a couple of checklists handy but I can see how folks that are used to the new car delivery experience from your standard ICE manu can be turned off.

I would opt for pickup at one of their delivery center since Tesla Fremont is only 12 miles away BUT I didn't even get that option. Home delivery was auto selected and there was no re-schedule option. I asked the SA and they were pretty insisting in the home delivery option as the only option. End of the year goals, potential EV credit next year, folks might be pushing back, etc. Seems like its more of a work backwards situation versus handling it the correct way, up front.
I probably will find it out tomorrow - I shared on another post, I opted to pick up at Fremont, but they have been keep changing it without asking. I gave up and whatever, I'll just wait for home delivery tomorrow afternoon.

Oh, that's interesting. Where are you changing it to Fremont delivery? I didn't even get that option.
Old fashion - call their customer service. Me too, I wasn't able to find a place to change that option online/app, so I called in Sept to make that change and that was reflected on tesla.com when I logged in. However, they just ignore it at the end. LOL

That way I convert a bad experience to something good. The Last time I bought a car was 17 years ago - A 2005 Honda Element. It has only 79,000 miles on it. It should continue to serve me well and will outlast me for sure. It might even be better for the planet - not sure what the environmental cost is of manufacturing a new tesla. (I am not trying to start a new thread here people!)
Keep the Tesla, send me your Element!
Had to get rid of my 2003 Element 5 years ago. I miss it so much!

It's strange, given the awards they got for it, that Honda stopped making the Element

...if two Elements collide, does it result in a Compound?
@EVer Hopeful between not getting embraced by their target demo and competing with the CR-V killed it. I think there was and still is a decent market for it. I'd snap one up in a heartbeat if they reintroduced it. I think the platform it was on it could be made into a good low/mid cost EV.
Compound! LOL

A Model Y was delivered Saturday to my driveway. I tried to open the car door and the delivery person said ‘you need to accept the car before you can unlock it’. I said, ‘ how do I know if I want the car if I can’t even open it?’ She said, if you don’t like it ’let us know and we will come back and pick it up as long as you put less than 100 miles on it’. Then she grabbed my phone, and accepted delivery (apparently) and jumped in a waiting Uber. I don’t want the car! I have not driven it. Tesla says it’s mine. I have not signed the registration or title. HELP!
Don't let the crappy delivery experience they gave you spoil everything else about the car.
If the car is in good shape, just keep it and use it for the next couple of years, it really is fun to drive.
This sounds like the appalling delivery experience I had years ago when I bought my Nissan Leaf. Nobody knew anything about it and I had to go through the wringer of the "finance guy" and the ridiculous/unneeded dealer add-on markups.
Difference there is that every time I took it in for the regular but unneeded service, their "service specialist" would try upsell me on coolant system flush etc. I still get oil change offers from them
I loved that little car but hated the idiots at the stealership constantly trying to spoil the experience.

At least with the Model Y you will probably never go to the service center again and will definitely never see those delivery folks again.

Yikes there can be some mean people on these forums haha

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. For some reason Tesla puts technology first but what about the un-savy tech people? But the fact you were able to find this forum, create an account, and post means you can do this!

In your case, it seems the only thing you can do is drive the car and enjoy one of the safest vehicles in the world. If not, try selling the car. I'm sure used car prices are still really good.

This is why I have so many videos on this on my Youtube Channel but there are steps tesla doesn't tell you to do to make sure the car you want is the car you want.

I was double charged for my car, as in they withdrew 60k from my bank account twice. It took them over a week and me being on the news for them to follow up and do something.

rest assured, 40k miles later, I love my Tesla. I love it so much we are getting another one soon. And yes, the customer service isn't the best, but overall you don't need to worry about it .

Not sure people are being mean but the context and story is just to confusing to take serious. Yes it sounds like the delivery person was in a hurry which is not fun but at the same time your not ever going to See this person ever again and should have little bearing on the car which she said was perfect. Also noted that her SA was nice and easy to contact. That’s confusing. Then the part of because this person was not nice the OP wants to donate it to charity only to list it for sale at a Premium the same day?? (Purchased a Year ago). Unless the delivery person assaulted the OP I see this as an over dramatic reaction to buyers remorse. We would all like to be treated like a queen but sadly not all people have a polite demeanor these days their just doing a job. Sad yes but if you reacted in this way for every transaction you would likely have nothing. JMO

Thanks. I would just like to get my money back. Its a Model Y white exterior and interior. I just listed it in marketplace.
OP. Really do think about letting the experience with the delivery person go. You can't sell your car until you get the paperwork. Get in and drive it (watch the videos first). It won't be worth less if you do.

Most people really like these cars. I do. My wife just loves it. You might, too. You got a good deal on it. Presumably you ordered it for good reasons. They are still valid.

Good luck, whatever you decide.
