High School Raffle of new Tesla S 85kwh sedan

A little off topic, but ironic. I was at a charity event in LA a few months ago where they had a model S on a raffle. The guy that won the raffle was a Toyota exec. He is the guy for the Toyota Foundation that gives away Toyotas for charitable events. Needless to say, he did take the car. LOL

Taking the $50k cash you'll also get hit with income tax, just not the sales tax. Would seem to be a no-brainer to take the car even if you were just going to resell it, IMHO.

It will be interesting to see if the winner takes the car or the cash. If they take the car, they'll owe about $25,000 in federal income tax (after the $7,500 tax credit) and then there's state income tax and state sales tax, too. Still, not a bad price for an $85,000 car.

Washington state has no income tax. Sales tax is high, but there is no sales tax on EVs.
