With only 20 miles on my new M3 last week, I started a 200-mile trip all charged up and ready to go. Didn't get out of the driveway before the screen messaged a warning not to drive the car since it could shut off at any moment. A few minutes later, the AC, radio and other cab functions shut down. Tesla towed it to their nearest service location and four days later, they diagnosed the problem as a defective high voltage battery charger, which had to be replaced. The part would take a week to arrive! Its still in the shop.

My concern is that there may be something else causing this part to fail since that part seems so critical to the operation of the car, how could it have failed after only 20 miles? The Tesla mechanics say they've not seen any other cars with this problem.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
