I found the hill hold a little disconcerting to learn. If you even tap the brake or accelerator it will disengage and you will roll forward or back. I keep my feet flat on the floor or use park.
I concur and repeat what has been said above..... The car should NOT ROLL BACKWARDS when in drive. period. It is an automatic transmission, not a manual...
I'm pretty sure hill hold is not meant to be an autonomous driving feature. It's just there to hold the car long enough for you to switch pedals. If you want the brake to hold, hold the brake, or put it in park. I don't think Tesla has ever guaranteed anything more than that.
Tesla does guarantee more than that. From the Hold section of the owners manual: After actively braking Model X for
approximately 10 minutes, Model X shifts into
Park and Vehicle Hold cancels.
