History Making First Recovery for SpaceX - Orbcomm-2 Launch

Static Fire test has been repeatedly pushed back due to challenges with this first use of the deep cryo liquid oxygen system. Current launch window is Dec 20 20:02-23:02. Of course that will only happen if the static fire is successful today.

The article mentions a Twitter dig by ULA VP Sowers. "That’s why we (ULA) don’t bother. Lots of complexity for little gain. Tough to know the conditions of LOX at liftoff."

Yeah, currently going through a couple holds on the static launch sorting through some stuff. Tuesday as a backup to Sunday.

Maybe ULA could provide us all with a list of the things "they don't bother with":

1. Sourcing their own engines
2. Rules for no-bid contracts
3. Competitive pricing
4. Spending their own money on R&D and innovation
5. Competing for any launches not teed up for them by Senator Shelby

please feel free to add your own.

The SpaceX web page about the launch appears to be out of date.
Yeah their site /mission pages always seems to be the last place to get updated info...
So what time is the launch scheduled for on Sunday?
According to Elon's latest tweet, roughly 8pm Eastern time.
EDIT: The official time is 8:29pm, with an instantaneous launch window. If anything delays it, next opportunity is on Tuesday the 22nd.

SpaceX never stops improving and version 1.2 is no different. Not just a return to space but the improved Falcon 9 has 33% better performance.
Now if we could just get the same result in the Tesla batteries we'd be all set!

1. Lengthened rocket to approximately 70 meters
2. Better landing legs and new grid design for improved landing
3. LOX propellant densified using cryogenic-temperatures which improves performance by putting more in the same space
4. Improved engine bell
5. Better stage separation with improved reliability

Tickets are purchased for the 3:20pm EST showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A casual drive to The Cape after the movie, pick up snacks for a picnic and then settle in for the launch and landing.

Cheers.

Don't get this at all. Weather forecast is 10% worse tomorrow. Wind gusts are better tomorrow though. Who knows.

What I figured. Musk was covering. Still figuring out the new liquid oxygen chilling method.

We have an update regarding tonight’s target launch for ORBCOMM’s OG2 Mission 2. Upon further review of the static fire data, SpaceX has determined that an additional day prior to launch will allow for more analysis and time to further chill the liquid oxygen in preparation for launch. Please note that we will now be targeting launch for tomorrow, Monday, December 21 at 8:34 pm ET.
