Has anyone considered fabricating a new hitch? I'm mulling it over, and would rather not duplicate effort if someone else is crazy like me.

The Bosal one is nifty and all, but is quite tedious and finicky in practice. I removed the bumper cover and diffuser, and the stock one is basically a bolt-on (early X with towing package, not sure if they've changed). With some preliminary measurements, I think I can get a permanent 2" receiver at the right height to only have to cut and make a removable cover on the black diffuser rather than the body colored bumper cover. It would be ~2.25" higher, and be easier to get real safety chains on and off. The 7-pin is kind of oddly routed, but probably trivial to relocate.
