Home Charge Installation without WiFi

Will I be able to install a home charger where there is no WiFi?

I have a home in the mountains of NC. The closest charger in the vicinity is 30 miles away and is a destination charger. I would like to install a home charger at my place, but there is no internet, so no WiFi. In reviewing the installation and commissioning videos, I see that ideally, there would be WiFi to link to the charger, yet I have no WiFi. Will I still be able to install a home charger?

If you are referring to the Tesla Wall Connector, for the initial setup, the Tesla Wall Connector provides a local WiFi connection so that you can use your phone to connect via WiFi to the Wall Connector to set the maximum circuit amperage. You would need an internet connected WiFi service so that the Wall Connector can receive over the air firmware updates that Tesla may release from time to time.

You could also use the Tesla Mobile Connector that comes with every Tesla vehicle for your home charging. The Mobile Connector does not require any WiFi service. Another option would be to install a non-Tesla electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE), what many call the charger. To use a non-Tesla EVSE you would use the provided J1772 adapter that comes with every Tesla vehicle. There are many brands and models of EVSE available that do not require WiFi or use an internet connection.

Yes, certainly will, but I see how this is confusing. If you've heard of the idea of wi-fi connections having the "server" and the "client", people are used to almost everything they use being the clients, and the wi-fi router that is connected to the internet being the server side of it.

This is a little unfamiliar, where the wall connector itself is acting as the server, providing its own wi-fi hotspot. And then your phone is just connecting directly to the wall connector's hotspot to configure it. No actual connection to the internet is necessary from either device.

But as @jcanoe mentioned, if you want to be able to get any functionality updates into the wall connector later, that would need for it to be able to connect outside to the internet to get those.
