Home delevery instead of the delevery center?

I just got a call from a Tesla rep asking me if I was interested in getting my MS delivered to my home instead of the delivery center, he said this would ensure that I would receive my car before the end of the year. I can then arrange to take my car to the delivery center for detailing at a later date.

Thoughts?

Back in January 2013 I had my 2012 Model S delivered to my home. Of course, the service center was 120 miles away and it seems that home delivery was the norm. According to the driver, Tesla was in such a hurry to get my car on the truck and count is as a 2012 delivery that they drove the car 12 miles in the rain to meet the driver. The car was also delivered with metal fragments in one of the tires (it was leaking air) and the both rear wheels were badly scratched. The delivery specialist was very upset that they delivered it to my house before they had a chance to inspect the car. In the end, all was taken care of right away (2 new wheels/tires and detailing).

I'm sure this is not how they handle things now, but as long as you can drive your car once you get it, I don't see a problem with home delivery. I would recommend that you take detailed pictures of car (with the driver), in case there is a dispute regarding any damage.

Home deliveries are a real letdown. If you don't already have a Tesla, you will miss all the excitement in the walkthrough that your DS can give. My wife took delivery of an X100D at our home (700km from the Toronto service center) end of last quarter. They essentially loaded it on a flatbed tow truck on a Sunday afternoon and the poor driver had no idea how far of a drive he had ahead of him. He arrived at 1AM Monday and just wanted to hand over the keyfobs and go. I'll pick up my Model 3 in person just for the awesome drive back home!!

As I've said elsewhere, it's really better to do it at an SC so any small problems you find (use one of the checklists!) can be fixed right then. I had a chargeport door that wouldn't close 100% and it was fixed on the spot. Hate to have that at home!
