ok yeah, i think that service guy must be mistaken. maybe he is thinking of summon where it may auto close and auto open when parking? i have no idea - i don't use the summon feature at all since it's too slow. our homelink is 99% accurate and reliable, but usually when it's not, it just fails to send a closing signal when leaving. i've come home before to an open garage, so now i wait to hear the chime and see it start closing before driving off. if you live in an area with not so great GPS signal or you share the garage door with a spouse, i probably would take the safe route and initiate the homelink manually!
we noticed the same in that two week period we used homelink, it just didn't send the signal to autoclose few times and we had to manually close by touching the homelink option on the screen. so before we drive off, we ensure that the garage door is closed. i can confirm that the autoclose did work several times when we drove away more than 20ft.
The whole idea of Auto Close is not to worry about it closing. If you have to wait and ensure that it's closed, then why not take the doubt out of the equation and disable Auto Close and instead just close it manually once your car is 20 feet away/at the end of the driveway? I use Auto Open, but not Auto Close for this reason, given the flakiness of the system sometimes, and this semi-manual procedure always works.
I have a 2017 X and 2020 Model 3, both cars have the homelink and my garage door opens automatically when I arrive at my house, however the garage door seldom closes when I leave, of course the setting to auto close when I leave is checked. I tried toying with the distance but no luck. Does anyone know if this is still a bug that is yet to be addressed?
Works reliably, both opening and closing, on our Model S. I have it set pretty close though (10-20 feet) because I didn’t want it to automatically trigger if I simply drive by the house. I basically have to be on the driveway.
