Someone scraped the front side of my S over the weekend.GRRR! left no note either. Does anyone know if the service center would work on this, or have any recommendations on where to take it?
I also would like to get the windows tinted at some point, just not sure where....

Ug. The Tesla Service Center can't do painting or body work that I'm aware of. I believe they will recommend a body shop that specializes in premium aluminum vehicles, someone like:

Hanley Brothers Auto Specialists

I stopped by the Memorial location to have them wet sand out a small scratch and they didn't even charge me. I believe they can also do tint and have done quite a few Model S vehicles already, although you might check with some others in the forum or at Coffee and Cars for who they used. All the tints I've seen so far (Jason, Lynn) have looked great, and most are going with a high quality ceramic tint.

Do you think these guys backed into you? I'd love to rig up one of those front facing cameras (always on in a loop) to catch these type of people. Were there any cameras covering the parking lot where this happened? If so, you might get lucky and ask the store if they have footage.

Stephen:
I got my car detailed last saturday and did not notice the scrape till Sunday afternoon! so I am not ever sure where it happened. Maybe I'll stop by Hanley's, does not appear that they do tinting though, an the scrape is limited to the plastic bumper. I really think it would buff out pretty easily. I'll probably swing by the service center anyway since it close to where I work. Thanks for the reply.

@stephenpace- I understand your issue with this- You bought mats and then Tesla gives them out for free. While mine do not have the Tesla logo, they seem to be pretty good quality and I will not have to get the ones I pre-ordered from Weathertech now.

This is similar to what Tesla did with the Superchargers for the 60 KWh battery. They seem to be learning as they go but they eventually make a decision that is good for every one in the end even if some people in the mean time get the raw end of the deal.

I also have a general question about how the Tesla would do in minor flood waters. I was told at the Get-Amped event that as the battery and connections were sealed, as long as water did not get into the cabin, there should be no problems with water.

While I was at the service center, there was a Tesla did not fair well with the flooding last week. The interior seemed fine, but I was told they had to replace the battery + more. I did not see water damage on the interior of the car.

Does any one know how much standing water we can drive through without having to worry about our precious batteries? I know we should never drive through standing water > 1" on the road, it would be nice to know we have some margin of error.

I may be able to spearhead next month if there's enough interest. I'll repost closer to June 1 to gauge interest.
Just back from Houston Coffee and Cars. While we didn't break a record for number of cars (5), I don't recall another time we were so swamped with interest. I probably talked non-stop from 7am until 10am when we left. Also, Lynn had the first Custom CCI that I have seen and the quality seemed very high. To show you an example of the interest in the cars, one of the photos below shows Ronnie holding court with people two deep around him in a half circle. We probably gave out two stacks of brochures, and fun was had.

Thanks to Lynn, Susan, Ronnie, and Edward for bringing out your vehicles! On a logistical note, it is looking like I won't be able to make the next one, so if someone else wants to step up and get there early to mark off spaces at our normal spot, that would be helpful. I got there just before 6am this morning and we didn't get the end spots--two trucks were already parked there!

@garyrodr, One of the guys at the Houston SC is a detailer. I'm sure he could get that buffed out for you if anyone can. He did a nice job on some scratches left over from delivery.
I met several guys. I think the detailer was Ian, but not positive.

Your turnout down there is really sad.

Haha, well, yours is a much more reasonable time. We have to get there at 6:30am, and Houston is a lot bigger than Austin, so it isn't a convenient location for everyone. Once the supercharger shows up between Austin and Houston, maybe we'll have a joint meetup there and see who can bring more cars.

If you were forced to, you should raise the car to max height and drive under 5 mpg (otherwise it will automatically lower). I'd like to know more about this case, though. How deep was it? Do you know if Tesla paid for the battery? I was told the same thing--batteries are completely sealed, and there are water sensors like the iPhone which automatically shut down the battery if it detects water ingress. Sounds like there waterproofing failed in this case. Expensive fix if Tesla had to pay for it. But I'd prefer that than having my insurance have to pay.

I do not know details of event. Tesla service staff was very coy about the who's, how's, and what's with this including who was paying and how much water was driven through.

The service adviser told me the car should be fine in driven up to 1/2 of rim height, then clarified a minimum of 6-9" of water. While I do not believe that as gospel, I am comforted to think if I have to drive through 2-4" of water, I should be fine.

If I can talk my wife into it, she may let me attend the C&C in June.

Sorry, I'm bad! Just wanted to jazz you, and Lynn, and the Houston team.

I just posted this on the main forum about the A/C making a noise. Its been a know problem for a while by there report. Anyone else here in Houston with this problem? Or is it just me, again... jkw "I have taken my car to the service center and was told it was "within design specifications". It was hot today here (> 90 degrees) and while in the past the sound would stop when the A/C was turned off and not return when it was turned on, today it was coming back with a few minutes every time I restarted the A/C. It sounds like something is going to explode- a building electric whine. I doubt this is designed this way. I am embarrassed when pulling up to a stop light with the car making this noise. I hope that some one is looking at getting this addressed but insulating the compressor or moving it elsewhere. "

@jwolens: I haven't had any issues with my AC yet. If the service center isn't being helpful I would definitely call headquarters.

On a good note I saw my first new hot red Tesla today at Vive Houston. I know I told a few people at one of our meetups that I was considering wrapping the car but after seeing how good 22PLE looks and learning that a wrap does not protect as well as XPEL I decided to bring my car back in to those guys to get the entire front end covered. I asked them if they could wrap it around the edges as best they could and it came out looking way better than I thought it would. The only places where they couldn't wrap it around the edge is on the corners and they got it so close to the edges of the corners that a normal person wouldn't be able to see it. They also put another coat of 22PLE over the XPEL which looks awesome. Pictures to come.

The red Tesla looked good. He was in for a paint correction and I think they said he was getting Opti-Coat or CQuartz. Interestingly he decided to leave his factory paint armor on.

I just started getting the noise and vibration over the past couple of days. I suspect the compressor must have two or more speeds and when it moves to a higher speed you get the noise and vibration. Clearly from the AC as it goes away when the AC is turned off. My sound was more like a moderately loud pump. Bob

Hi Lynn, how much was that CCI? btw, Misspelling on your banner...how did you get the banner on there????? Just copy/paste from someone else? Nice to have met you at the last event!

Yeah, I think I have heard a loud humming sound now that it has gotten hotter...I thought maybe it was the batteries being cooled or something, not the A/C. I'll have to check on that. I think it is mostly noticeable when I first get the car going.

I did some tests of how quiet the car is in my garage.

Car on- 57-58 dB
A/C on 2- 59-60 dB - with compressor sound 70 dB
A/C on 4-61 dB - with compressor sound 70-71 dB
A/C on 6-65-66 dB - with compressor sound not tested
A/C on 8-70 dB - with compressor sound not tested
A/C on 11- 77-78 dB - with compressor sound 78 dB

The added noise is greatest at the lower A/C settings and does go away after a few minutes. The sound is audible outside the car - but not sure how much other drivers on the road will hear.

My wife and I are getting used to it as the summer is upon us.

I will try to duplicate the tests and see if I get the same results.

got a quote from Hanley to take the scratches out, quite a bit more that I had anticipated....might go to Vive to see what they say...
on another note, has anyone parked their car out in direct sun yet? I did on saturday. after about a hour the door handles were too hot to touch. after they auto presented, had to use my shirt to open the door. Would have burnt my fingers otherwise. I saw a thread on here about that. It's gonna be fun when out company moves offices to a building w/o covered parking later in the year.!

@garyrodr: Let us know what the difference in price is when you get the quote from Vive Houston.

@jwolens: Now I know what noise you are talking about. Yes it does make a lot of noise when I first start the car up but once the AC gets going it seems to go away pretty quickly. I thought you were talking about something more severe.

Quick question: is anyone on here living somewhere north of Houston (Willis, Conroe, Lake Conroe area?)?

I am traveling there this weekend, and want to know if there are any emergency charging opportunities not already on plugshare for a fellow MS owner. I have a primary plan but wanted to make sure I had a plan B.
Anyone up in that area?
