Azred - According to the 2016 Canadian Census 42% of young adults live with parents in Ontario. Housing, Jobs, Debt and other factors are making it very hard to move away. I don't see what harm it does for me to rationalize it by focusing on the ecological benefits. Also, I've lived alone in Toronto before and I got very very lonely.![]()
If you want to live as part of a community, maybe when you can afford it you can look for co-housing initiatives:

I could also suggest volunteering for other things* since it's generally found to be so beneficial to people, but as a starving artist, maybe you need first to focus on finding work that allows you to be a non-starving amateur artist, and then you might be able to volunteer your artistic skills.
* Not preaching: my volunteering is limited to 1 thing per year. I'm a procrastinator so I'm generally too busy entertaining my Instant Gratification Monkey.
