How do you know you qualify for the tax credit?

I guess a good indication of them getting close to 200K would be if US deliveries start slowing down or if they stop at the end of a quarter. Maybe we should be driving by all of the US stores starting December first and counting cars that are waiting for delivery.

Q4 this year would be my bet, the only problem is that a lot of people will want to get theirs as close to the end of the year as they can so they have less time to wait for their tax credit.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanting to see if anyone knows how we would know if we qualify for the tax credit when purchasing the Model 3. When we are able to configure our cars, will Tesla let us know that we qualify for the tax credit (the full $7,500 or less)? I just trying to get an idea of how that will work. I will buy regardless, but was curious how we would find out.

Thanks!

Today Elon expressed that the team was working to get all the people who have a deposit the full tax credit. I took it as an Elon goal with the CFO hedging (selling the half value tax credit). I hope most folks at Tesla recognize the value of money to their middle class customers and make the full tax credit come true. Tesla is way better served if that happens.

Example #1:US car #200,000 will be sold on December 29. Sure, pause sales for 3 days.

Example #2:US Car #200,000 will be sold on October 28? What could they possibly do?

The way he sounded during the call today and logic dictates that it'd be late Q4 at the earliest... He was really sounding like he knows for sure it will be Q1 2018 and didn't want to say anything because that might cause more preorders instead of what they want which is people panicking, thinking it's going to run out, so they end up buying a Model S. (That's at least my interpretation of why he avoided answering the question)

There are a lot of things they can do.
Put more loaner cars into service centers (might help-don't know how they are counted). Open new markets.

These things are done preemptively.

If inventory carries at 1% per quarter Carry a quarters worth of inventory. If you have to.

They are really creative and will see options we miss. The CFO does not want to miss his numbers. Elon will get him to miss by adjusting incentives in the best interest of Tesla.

This is where the delivery centers could come in very handy. They could theoretically stockpile cars at the various delivery centers, and wait until day one of the quarter following delivery of car #200,000. That would insure the potential maximum number of cars delivered within 2 quarters of 200K.

Wonder if he is rehearsing the staging for the mars flotilla...
