How do you reject delivery?

Hi all,

Just a question about how to reject delivery of my Y just in case.

When I bought my M3, I traded in my old Honda. When I got to Tesla, my advisor basically took the keys to my old car and had me fill out some forms before I even got to see my M3. Fortunately, nothing was wrong and I just drove off.

It seems that there have been lots of delivery issues, however they seem to be improving with higher VINs. I'm just wondering how to go about delivery this time around as I'm trading in my wife's minivan. Do I basically say, "I'd like to inspect the car before we get started?" What do I do if the same thing happens as last time and they take the keys to the van? My understanding of their trade in policy is that I can't get my car back once I've traded it in - so if I end up rejecting the car, will I be left without a vehicle?

Thanks!

You tell them that based on the poor quality of recent vehicles produced you need to inspect your MY before proceeding with the trade-in, etc..
If they refuse start walking towards the door, see how compliant they become after that. With the end of Q3 quickly approaching they are looking for maximum effort from all departments to get vehicles out the door.

Yeah for sure you should tell them you want to inspect the car before filling out any forms or handing them the key for your trade-in. That's what I did and they were totally fine with that, they gave me the "key card" and told me to check it out and come back afterward. The car I saw looked terrible, so I rejected it eventhough my heart and passion wanted to drive home in the new car. My best tip is to not get too attached to the car, just look at it objectively and if all is good, then you can relax and enjoy the moment from then on.

I've not done a trade in so cannot speak to that part of it. But, have rejected a delivery and accepted a delivery at two different Telsa dealerships, The process was a bit different at both but in both cases we were eventually allowed to inspect the outside and inside of the vehicle before signing the paperwork and accepting delivery. So it might depend on the dealership but just ask and reference other delivery issues you've read about, and you should be ok.

Rejected one last month, accepted one two days ago.

In both cases they expected me to start filling out the paperwork before I had inspected the vehicle. I just told them I didn't want to sign anything until I had looked the car over. There was no problem with that.

No pressure when I rejected the first one, and no pressure the 2nd time either.

Seems like the correct thread to ask; Does anybody have experience with rejecting after Carrier Direct delivery? Living 7 hrs away from the Delivery Center and 7 hrs another direction to a Service Center, adds some spice to this mix, Tesla has already confirmed I will be set up with Carrier Direct. Since that process requires payment before the 3rd party carrier starts transport, waiting to sign isn't an option. Still hopeful that I get a beauty, but back-brain says, "What If I get a mongrel?" Is it as simple as calling the delivery specialist and asking where they want it returned? Presumably that will be back to Salt Lake City. Forum makes it pretty clear that the 7 day/1,000 mile limit won't be the problem (folks know within 60 minutes if they can live with the issues).

My Tesla is scheduled to arrive 2nd half of October. I live in Texas so I have to pay for the car prior to transport. Am concerned that if the car has too many defects that I cannot live with, how do I reject the car if it is already paid for. Plan to have my daughter present at time of delivery since she has eagle eyes and no emotional investment in the car.
