How does diagnostic mode work?

I know it used to be a common code entered on the "secret T" screen but they changed it.

Is it now locked to a vehicle's VIN? Does it change every day? Every hour?

I'm a nerd and like statistics. Wondering if there's any way to enable it.

The code rotates every 24 hours.

are we sure about that? the service key is not rotating and you can probably guess what it is... however it'll only work whenever your car is flagged for service and when near a service center.

For MCU1 cars it gets generated every 24 hours and uploaded to mothership, for MCU2 and ICE (Model 3) it gets activated without token through hermes
