How does TEG know peak/offpeak times?

Does Tesla know based on your PG&E bill that you upload or do I need to set my TOU schedule somewhere?

You need to configure it. In the app Select Configuration, then Advanced - Time Based Control. Then you can configure your peak times. It seems that for some reason the advanced option doesn’t show up immediately on new installs. As I recall it was about a week or a week and a half after my system was commissioned that the advanced option showed up for me.

Agree it takes a few days to show up
Also, you may want to not enter any "Shoulder" time. I found my PW discharging during shoulder sometimes. I just made it all Off Peak or Peak

Not seeing that anywhere in the app.

I have:

Power Flow
Performance
Backup History
Customize.

Under Cutomize, I have a choice between

Backup-only
Self-powered

I don't see advanced anywhere.

You should also see the stormwatch option show up on the configuration screen after a day or two as well. In my case, I got the storm watch option first within a couple of days, then the advanced option a little while after that.
