How Does Tesla know if Free Supercharging changed ownership?

Hi I have a 2018 Model S that has Free Unlimited Supercharging via referral program. I understand that the FUSC is not transferrable to the new owner, but I'm wondering how Tesla knows if there is a new owner? I plan on giving my Model S to my son but would like for him to keep the FUSC and register the car under his name.

Has anyone been able to "transfer" their post 2016 FUSC to a new owner?

Well I took over the previous owners account and just changed my information. I asked Tesla if it was OK when I was at a SC and they said it was fine. If you pass the car to your son you could do the same.

Yes, it’s now in my name. In The Netherlands Tesla is known not to update/monitor the local registry accurately (i.e. cars are sometimes registered on the wrong date, no reporting of solved recalls) so perhaps what I did is not possible in the US.
