I'll share one more tidbit; sometimes the vendor (chip) firmware can't go backwards in versions. once its flashed with some version, it often can't be undone. so if the vendor's attempt to fix something didn't work and made things worse, there's no way to undo it other than have them try to fix that version of firmware and you work around it at the host level.

I've had fw be really bad and yet we were stuck with it and had to halt all upgrades until we had a real fix from the vendor.

its like making sausage. sometimes, its best not to know how bad the 'ingredients' are under the cover. and once you pick a chip vendor (that is so central to the function) its really hard to change it.

Well if the plane's gps I fly had the same reliability than the one I have in my 3. I'll be dead ! These day, when I start the car, it puts me about 3 km of my position and it takes a few km to give a proper indication.
The mobile service came but it didn't solve the issue.
Is this a new issue for you? My GPS worked fine for 3 years until last software update (2021.12.25.7). Now my problem is same as yours.
