We have a Caddy SRX 2015 with Bose Active Noise cancellation. Had a 2011 SRX before this. Don't really think the 2015 WITH ANC is any quieter. But that is just a feeling, as 2011 is long since sold. FYI, the Caddys have dual pane and 'acoustic glass' I believe. That said, the 2015 SRX is WAY quieter than the 2021 Model X Performance with 22s we test drove. LOTS quieter. So much more, the SRX which has Hakka WINTER TIRES on it, was noticeable quieter than the Model X with stock tires. Drove same road as test drive to be sure and Caddy is SOOO much quieter, it scares me on the X. This new ANC better make the X better than the test drive, or will miss that on the Caddy for sure. P.S. Did have the ANC on the Caddy screw up once. Moving kid, completely packed to the roof in 2nd seat to back with her junk. Available passenger volume must not have matched the mathematical model of the ANC and system made a pulsing low frequency thump-thump-thump from the speakers. Was pretty loud and though something wrong with car. Went away once emptied junk and never came back.
ANC would seem, at least to my marble-sized brain, to be something Tesla could engineer and send via a firmware update to the entire fleet. At least to the vehicles with the Ultra High Fidelity Sound package. Can anyone tell me why this is not possible or practical? It’s actually something I would gladly pay for.
As mentioned in post #17 above this feature most likely requires additional hardware. At the very least, it would require additional microphones which would record sound from throughout the cabin and additional speakers to output the cancelled out sound.
I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that ANC is not coming to pre-refresh vehicles. And if it did come, it absolutely would not just be a firmware update.
The double paned glass really belongs on the more premium S and X. It’s a miss if the refresh doesn’t have it.
