How long does the delivery appointment take?

The wait is nearly over. I get my MS90D in two weeks. I could take delivery Thursday in Austin, but I am heading out of the country so it will be delayed gratification.

I understand I can do a quick in and out, but I want the full experience. The Finance Minister will need to go back to work (I am on vacation) and I need to tell her how long to block on her calendar.

Thanks

Congrats on your MS90D, I took delivery of mine two weeks ago. Plan for an hour and do yourself a favor and spend 20 minutes the evening before and go to the Tesla site to check out all of the 30 sec - 2 min video snippets on aspects of the car (doors, autopilot, charging, etc). By doing so, you will be able to ask better questions and have proper context for the walk through with the delivery specialist. It won't spoil the fun, it will just give you more confidence driving out of the center, knowing you can go anywhere and use all of the features. I was able to drive home most of the way on autopilot and 48 hours later took a 1,200 mile road trip, confidently. One last tip is to do your last minute payment and financial transactions on the site, so when you get there you're all paid up and just have to sign the docs.

As a Texan, I have to have it paid in full before they will even ship it. Thanks Texas Auto Dealers Association.

I have temp California tag until I register in Texas.

Really? I'm in the Dallas area and my car says it has been built and is now in transit. I have loan approval but definitely have not paid anything yet. Are you sure?
I was told the vehicle can't cross the Texas border without being paid up. That is why we get California Temporary tags. You are technically buying it in California.

Have you received the packet from the DMV team yet? You have to sign a bunch of California paperwork and you get a paper tag in the FEDEX paperwork

No, I have not. My delivery appointment is already set for this Friday 8/4. The irony is I moved from California less than a year ago.

Oops, 8/5 is Friday :)
Is it new or CPO? I presume new. I would contact your delivery specialist ASAP to prevent any last minute surprises.

I got my paperwork from the DMV team 2 weeks before they thought I wanted it delivered - about a month before actual delivery. Good news is you get the tag first and an express envelope to send back to the mothership

If you read the Texas forum here, this is covered in a number of threads

Enjoy your new car!

Keep us posted on your experience as I was assured multiple times it didn't need to be paid up before shipping. Mine is shipping as we speak and I am just now finalizing my loan and expected to pick up within a week and have had no mention of a DMV or FedEx process.

This in no way is diminishing anything the other owner has said but I think the inconsistency of the DS and how they handle processes across the system may be adding a level of variety in there.

Yup, I'm convinced your order was the one that kicked started my into production. If you look at the Google sheet for tracking I (Christopher) ordered before you and sat in the production queue for longer than average. You went into production at the same time as me. Perhaps Tesla was trying to optimize on the number of Dallas area orders to build together in order to get them all onto the same truck. I spoke to my DS and he assured me the car is on its way and my appointment this Friday will likely be kept.

Then i am wondering how you leap frogged me if you will as my delivery isn't for another 10-14 days since he said it is coming on a train.

This whole thing is bonkers lol

I wondered that as well. Since I ordered first it is only fair ;) To be clear, status on mine shows "Your estimated delivery window is August 4, 2016 - August 11, 2016" online. My DS scheduled me for 8/5 based on his experience but I don't know if he is just being optimistic and/or I'm going out of town from 8/5-8/10. Lots of anxious people here, including me but in reality it will come when it comes :) I wasn't even in a hurry to switch out my current car which I love but something about finally pulling the trigger gets the anxiety going. For me, my model S test drive was about 2 years ago in San Diego. It took the refreshed fascia and the 75 kwH battery in a 60 (optimize charging) to finally make me pull the trigger.

The FedEx thing just appeared. I got an email notice that a package was shipped.

All I can say is that the consistency is inconsistent between the Dallas and Austin delivery specialists.
