I'm curious how far in advance of delivery we'll receive the documents necessary to title and register the car? In Maryland we need a certificate of origin, bill of sale, and odometer disclosure statement to title and register a car. Or does Tesla take care of all of this?
My delivery specialist took care of all of that for me. I do have a FL temp tag, but it will be replaced by a tag I got in January (ALL AMPS) as soon as the registration paperwork gets processed by DMV (usually a few weeks).
Did you obtain the ALL AMPS tag for another car with plans to transfer it to the Model S? In Maryland we can't get custom tags without a registered car to put them on.
It's the same in Florida as MD. So yes, he did obtain it for another car. I will not be trading in any cars, so I'm sitting here hoping nobody steals my tag idea...
Same for me. I'm going to go ahead an order the custom plate now and put it on another car until the Model S arrives.
My delivery specialist had all paperwork waiting when I arrived at the factory prefilled out. Plate # was blank and I had personalized plates I was transferring from the Roadster I was turning in, so we just filled that in. I drove away in the S with temporary registration. One of the paperwork items was a power of attorney for this registration, so they then added a form to transfer the plate after I left and they were able to process everything. Permanent registration and a sticker arrived maybe 2 weeks later at most.
How long did the HOV sticker take to show up? (I'm assuming that the sticker you mentioned above was the date sticker for the plate; please correct me if I'm wrong!)
MikeK: I still haven't got it! Rather frustrated actually. SCRATCH THAT. I just heard from home that they came today. So it's been exactly 33 days from car pick up to HOV sticker arrival.
Ordered custom plates today from the Maryland MVA: 85KWH. Fortunately, it was available, but with at least 25 S and P reservations in Maryland, I didn't think for long. They'll go on my Volt, then be transferred to the Model S when it arrives in about 6 months. So for a time, the Volt will be tagged with a way exaggerated battery capacity. I'll solve that problem with a license plate frame that says my next car is a Tesla Model S.
