this is the installed price from tesla themselves? i've got 3rd parties quoting between $22 and $24k for 2 powerwalls right now, and $13k installed for one. might make sense to just risk only being able to install one if tesla's installed costs are so much lower.
Yes these are quotes from Tesla directly. The quotes I got was as follows:
One Powerwall:
- Powerwall: $6,500
- Gateway: $1,100
- Installation: $3,000
- Permit: $500
- Tax: $703
- Down payment: -$99
- Due: $11,704
Two Powerwalls:
- Powerwall: $13,000
- Gateway: $1,100
- Installation: $2,500
- Permit: $500
- Tax: $1,304.25
- Down payment: -$99
- Due: $18,305.25
The difference is $6,600. After ITC, the second Powerwall is effectively $4,620.
I asked about the installation cost differences, and the sales rep said with one Powerwall, installation includes moving circuits to a critical load panel. It's still $3,000 if I don't want a critical load panel. With two Powerwalls, they don't need a separate panel, so installation is cheaper. He said if I end up having to install a second panel the installation cost will still stay the same.
It appears Tesla is moving to standardized installation costs - 1PW = $3,000, 2PW = $2,500, 3PW = $4,000. Permit is another $500.
If I buy just one now and add one later, the new one will be almost $10k before ITC, assuming the prices stay the same.
