How often do you need to top up the tire pressure?

Quick question. I'm in Pittsburgh. We sometimes have wide temperature variation. For example, 24 today, and 54 on Friday. Which is better - avoid low or high tire pressures?

A 30 degree swing is 3 psi. Don't worry about it. Just fill for the average temperature.

BTW, you don't know what temperature swings are. last week, it was 84 one day and snow the next here!

Set for the lowest temperature, and it will never be a problem.

Jerry - setting for the lowest temp could cause it to exceed the rated max (45 to 51 psi) on warm winter days. Is that a potential problem?

No. No problem at all. If you set it for the average temperature, it will be underinflated much of the time. That's a problem.

Fill up on a cool morning, before driving, is the recommendation I have heard from tire makers. (And then don't worry about it).

Added air to my stock tires today for the first time since delivery in May. Starting to get mildly cold here in N.VA, so I wasn't surprised to have the TPMS tell me the tire pressure was low. Topped them all up to 45 psi and (hopefully) am good to go.
