How often does Tesla miss their delivery window ?

They completely blew mine. My delivery window was Jan. 31-Feb. 14, I'm still waiting for the payment & VIN paperwork so I'm still several weeks away from getting my car. Mine's a Canadian car, an 85 kWh Perf with air suspension reserved June/2011. Worse yet Tesla hasn't answered any of my inquiries, I've phoned the main office as well as phoned the Canadian delivery specialist multiple times. Not cool Tesla.

Communication is Tesla's number one issue right now, IMHO.

They delivered two days BEFORE my delivery window even started for me. Keep calling. Every time I called things seemed to speed up.

Don't bother leaving messages. Just call again in a few minutes.

Seemed to work for me.

Good Luck The car is worth the wait.

They missed my window, but only by 4 days. That was after a LOT of communication on my part, though -- I literally spent a day on the phone calling different people. The more upsetting part was the short notice: I was unable to schedule delivery until, well, 3 days before delivery.

+1 very not cool.
Same non response for me from Tesla for over a month, I actually called to see about cancelling the car out of frustration with them, but figured losing my deposit would only hurt me, Tesla wouldn't even had known I was here....

My MS was delivered exactly in the middle of my window. It was done at the beginning of the window, but I didn't have time to pick up.

I never initiated any contact with Tesla, and everything just happened naturally. I did get the VIN in the iPhone app about 3-4 days before they made contact with me, and it was hard to resist calling them to see what's up.

Come on ... waiting for your Model S is like waiting at the restaurant for your first date with the most [beautiful woman/handsome man] you ever asked out.

Anticipation anxiety builds ... you count the seconds they're late. Have I been stood up?

Then they arrive ... lock eyes ... and give you an unexpected kiss on the cheek.

And maybe a single stem rose?

How many of us then even remember they were 3 minutes late? Or was it 30?

And then you fall in love  ... with a car!

So worth it!

(Do I still need therapy?)

my car is shipping from CA to GA tomorrow i believe and my window is march 14-28 so they should hit it at the beginning or somewhere around there.

my experience has been that a phone call every other day or so to follow up while might be an annoyance to the folks at tesla seems to help me.

My delivery window was given as March 7-21. They called me earlier this week to say the car came in March 4th, and I can come and pick it up.

Great, except I had no advance notice and was under the impression that the car hadn't even left the factory. Now I have to scramble for financing, insurance and trade-in while the car sits there and waits for me!

I agree on all the communication issues. The fact that Tesla is different not withstanding. I think they've set an expectation with most customers that they would have increased knowledge of their cars delivery status. Usually when you order a car you just wait for the call that the car is in at the dealership and you go get it. It's not a big deal for a guy like me and I'm trying to treat it as in the past. BUT, my electric is hooked up, I'm paying cash, Insurance is in place, and I'm selling the Prius to a buddy whenever my S comes in. So I can take the car whenever it comes in. Many others need more, and earlier communication.

Having said that, while stalking the TMC forums and looking at configurations and Vin's I have good reason to believe that my car is completed and somewhere other than California. Maybe not. Either way, I'm in the delivery window and resisting the urge to call. Because I can,and because I want the excitement of the communication from the DS.

Wow! I guess I was correct. Just got an email from my PS titled "Your Tesla IS Ready To Come Home." It's apparently at the Columbus Service Center (which is apparently open) and I'm just waiting on the final paperwork, then the wire, then I'll hear from the DS to set up delivery. Cool!

It's a symbiotic relationship between man and car.

My delivery window was Feb 17th - Mar 3rd and I should be picking it up tomorrow the 8th. A miss by 5 days but the miss was probably caused by an incalculable variable parameter ... the border crossing. The truck was held up for over a week.

I'm curious to know if there was something unique about that one shipment. When I got the "surprise" call that my car was in, I specifically mentioned hearing about border delays. My DS said he hadn't heard of that, and that my shipment at least came in when they were expecting it. Perhaps there's some paperwork that the driver or trucking company didn't deal with and it really was just a "one-off".
