Hey Guys, I’m looking at a 2013 P85+ with 100k. The current owner does not know if the drive unit has been replaced. What is the best way to find out? Will a service center disclose this info if I provide a VIN? Thanks!
There is a part number sticker on the drive unit somewhere... not sure if it's accessible in any easy way when installed in the car.
Tesla won't tell you squat.
TBH it's quite likely been replaced at least once...
If you have the ability to do a pre-purchase inspection the #1 thing I'd do is check for internal coolant leaks by removing the speed sensor. That will give you actual info as to the health of the current drive unit vs. speculating based on replacement.
