Then they changed architecture from the S and X then, because my X has done that. *shrug*
Technically same architecture except the limit in amps is different. For example sr+ model 3 is 32 amps, LR model 3 is 48amps and also new model S and X and then older s and X are 72 or 80amps. Same applies to those just higher amp cutoff.

But do we know for sure that it is a different AC to DC converter or is it just a limit set in the software to only charge the battery at 32 amps. It could very well be the exact same AC to DC converter in the LR as the SR but the charge limit may be programmed differently.

Doesn't make any difference if it's hardware or software limit. If it's software the only plus side is they could software unlock it later.

Unless they're software limiting the power into the battery rather than the ac/dc converter. That could theoretically be possible but doesn't make much sense. And I'm pretty sure it's not a software limit.

On a manufacturing perspective, it doesn't make sense to have another part number unless the cost is highly significant. The process of getting it certified and OK'd by the approval agencies are huge.

In huge volume production, it makes more sense to jam the same 48A charger into all Model 3's as there's less inventory management to deal with both in production and in after sales activities. A software switch to enable/disable it is just a bit turn to 1 or 0.

One way around this is they buy a pre-made 32A onboard charger with all approvals present from an established supplier and run them in production batches as orders for the SR/SR+ add up.
