I just received my MS to Roadster adapter from Henry. All I can say is that it is a work of art and should be in the Smithsonian Museum! It's going to make life a lot easier to charge my Roadster when I'm at the mall without having to lug my UMC! Thank you again Henry for a job well done:)

PS - if anyone wonders about the value with either of Henry's adapter all of us adapter owners can vouch for the high quality and convenience well worth the cost.

Thank you Henry,

Just enjoyed driving the Roadster almost 300 miles to the Big 10 Championship game only possible by the 70 amp charging at the Tesla showroom.

I love reports like this! Thanks!

Is it too late to get added to the list Henry? I would love to get one of these adapters. I have your CAN and it's a lifesaver. ~Thank you

You're on the list. Thanks!

We stopped at the Atlantis Casino in Reno and plugged into one of their two HPWC's. The first one threw errors "DMC FW:HCS Faulted Warning" on the VDS (we have debug on) and the charging failed. We then tried the second one and that one worked just fine. We ended up charging at 70amps! When we told the bell desk, they let us know that the first charger was having issues and their engineering department was notified. I suggested they put a sign on it and disable it. We noted on Plugshare that the ones at the Peppermill were in place but, were not powered. We did not make it over to the Eldorado, maybe next time.

Your CAN-SR worked just fine!! Thank you for all you have done!!

Well, Henry - your adapter just became much more valuable to me. The Tesla retail store in Scottsdale, AZ removed the Roadster HPWC, and in its place put two 14-50 outlets. The Model S Wall Connector is still there of course, but the only way I can charge at my local Tesla store now is with this adapter.

I simply cannot express my appreciation and gratitude enough.

Thank you @shrink! While I'm glad to hear the adapter is helping you, it kind of bugs me that Tesla is removing almost all the old Roadster HPCs from the stores.

Yup. Either bring your adapter or the UMC or MC with the car when you bring it in for service.

Yes, not just stores. Service centers too. Several SC managers have expressed interest because the adapter allows them to service a Roadster in almost any bay. One of them told me that their last Roadster UMC died and they are reduced to 120v charging for Roadsters.

Model S to Roadster adapter

The CAN SR is probably the single-most useful Roadster upgrade (at least after the CAN JR). Tesla should partner with you as a supplier, stock every service centre with one, and add it to the upgrades page. It would save them a ton of engineering time and testing resources in trying to build one on their own.

Even if the battery pack upgrade includes conversion to a Model S port, there will still be a large number of unconverted Roadsters that will need the adapter.

I have been testing Henry Sharp's amazing Model S to Roadster charging adapter for nearly a year. The performance of the latest version "CAN-SR" gave me the confidence to use it exclusively on a recent road trip across the desert southwest. left my winter home in Manhattan Beach, CA. for a weekend visit to Chandler, AZ. a trip of 421 miles each way. My first stop was a mere 127 miles away at the Tesla Gallery in Cathedral City, CA. There are 3 Model S HPWC's in the parking lot. A phone call a week before my arrival confirmed they were in operating order and available 24/7. I arrived with 80 ideal miles. When I plugged in with the CAN-SR the Roadster began charging with 200 volts @ 70 amps! Two and one-half hours later I was on my way with 201 ideal miles.

My next stop was at an RV campground just east of the California - Arizona state line on I-10 in Quartzite, AZ., a distance of 135 miles. I charged overnight at the campground. The CAN-SR works well with the Model S UMC charging with 240 volts @ 40 amps. I left the following morning with 217 ideal miles for my final destination in Chandler, AZ. a distance of 159 miles.

At my final destination in Chandler my daughter unplugged the electric dryer in the laundry room adjacent to the garage. We charged the Roadster using the CAN-SR and a UMC with 240 volts @ 24 amps.
The return trip was the same in reverse and without incident.

The Tesla Gallery at Cathedral City does not have a Roadster HPC. Without the CAN-SR I would have used their NEMA 14-50 @ 40 amps. The CAN-SR cut 3+ hours off my charging time, making for a much more relaxed first day of the trip. I cannot give enough praise to Henry and the CAN-SR. A must for all Roadster owners.

I received my CAN-SR from Henry on Sunday and immediately tested it on my Model S HPWC....then pondered the white chargeport that didn't seem to recognize that a power cable was attached at all. Hmmm, same response at 3 others I tested but the CAN worked perfectly with a Model S UMC. After playing about with different HPWCs and discussion with Henry (and Bonnie based on her experience) I realized that my Roadster was still on firmware version 4.6.5 which has the 80A charging bug (doh!). A quick trip to Tesla service this morning and the guys in Tampa flashed my car with FW v4.6.8 and everything worked flawlessly.

Note to all: check your FW version and get v4.6.8 installed to avoid two days of head scratching.

Now I've tested the CAN-SR on several different HPWCs and the thing is not only pretty to look at, it also works a dream. The techs at the Tampa service center and staff the Sarasota store were impressed with Henry's work and I'm sure they won't mind me quoting a few of the comments: “Beautiful”, “excellent engineering”, “very professional”, “first-class”…..

Thanks again Henry - you really did an outstanding job on this! There are a number of detsination program HPWCs in Florida so this is going to be very useful to me.

Received my CAN SR today. It's 2 for 2 in my garage tests today; charged great with both my 80-Amp HPWC at 70 Amps and my UMC on a 14-50 at 40 Amps.

Thank You, Henry!!!

The CAN SR is an incredible addition to flexibility in Roadster charging that Tesla should have done long ago. I asked for just such an adapter when I got my Sig S 27 months ago, but Tesla just told me it was unavailable. There are so many HPWCs going in with Tesla's Destination Charging program and at Tesla Showrooms and Service Centers, that this is a godsend to Roadster owners.

Henry, you are an angel to the Roadster community.
