HV Controller failure on 4.5 year old Model 3 (RWD, long range). Tesla says Not covered under Battery Warranty

Tesla says I am responsible for the replacement cost ($900+) of the HV controller because the 8yr warranty covers only the battery itself. Huh? Anyone else have this happen to their 4+ yr old model 3?
Tesla has been very consistent in saying that the battery and drive unit warranty covers "the battery" and the "drive unit" not anything else connected to them, yes, "everyone" has the same experience with something they think is part of those things but not those two exact things being not covered by tesla.

An example of their consistency on this is this thread here on not covering the PCS unit, which is also something that is required for the battery to operate:

The thread starter there is going to arbitration over this with Tesla, perhaps you want to try doing the same?

In any case, Tesla considers that warranty to be those two parts, only, not things that connect to those two parts. You likely need to take them to arbitration to make them do something different.

Sorry that happened. Did the issue occur during a storm while charging at home? If you don't already have a whole house surge protector, I recommend you get one such as this:
