I had to take the MY to a gas station.....

I had to refill the rental bobcat. Damn, diesel is expensive. BTW, the bobcat + trailer weighs 7000 lbs. The car did fine--thankfully I wasn't going far or fast.

I live in California. I doubt there would be any issue other than finding a gas station with enough room. Rural stations, no problem. Stations in the cities can be a bit cramped.
No issue until you have to stop for a child that wanders out into the street. or a panic stop. There is a reason they put tow ratings on cars and it’s not because they can’t pull the weight.

also here in California they will not rent you trailer more than what you are rated to tow. It’s a liability issue.
wonder why?

Probably had 1,000 lb tongue weight. That's asking for destruction in my opinion.
Even if it didn't exceed the tongue weight, it's unsafe, opening yourself up to liability in the event of a crash, and giving Tesla opportunity to deny a warranty claim if something is damaged as a result. (assuming they find out of course).

Why would you risk any of these outcomes vs. just renting a truck, pay to have someone else tow it with the appropriate vehicle, or have the fuel delivered? Seems pretty negligent and not a choice I'd be comfortable making but will get off my soapbox now.
