I need to buy an Android phone, which one?

Battery life gone on old phone, I need a new one. Don't need a huge screen, not a gamer or movie watcher. JUST WANT IT TO WORK WITH A MODEL 3! What phones have been reliable?

My Samsung Galaxy S8 is a great phone with great camera, no problems using it with the Tesla. I also like that it's an OLED screen instead of LCD. If you want a much cheaper phone with average camera then look at the Moto G and Moto X. Don't buy a phone without using it in the store for a few minutes first.

That is definitely not true. My Moto G4 (unlocked and on Verizon, but that shouldn't matter) doesn't work too well with the Model 3. I need to toggle airplane mode every single time I want it to unlock the car. And that is after I made sure that the Tesla app is not "battery optimized." Before doing that, I could never get it to connect, period.

At this point, I'd say all of them. Out of my (now) 8 Android phones I have laying around, none of them have failed on me thus far. The ones I use the most frequently are the Essential Phone and Google Pixel XL.

Any newer phone should work, you can go for the $1,000 phones (Pixel) or drop down to the >$300 phones (Nokia).

You could also get an older Galaxy S7 Edge or something similar for $200 - $300 or so if you shop around and don't need the latest device out there. My family has practiced "trickle down phones" for years. My mom just inherited my S7 Edge, which I inherited last year. Previously she (and I) had the Nexus 5, Nexus 4, etc.

Samsung is such a heavy player in this space, their phones seem more likely to have been validated by automakers than many others...just saying.

I have a Huawei Mate 9. Nice phone, but I have to open the Tesla app in order for the bluetooth to be detected and unlock the car. Do these other models allow you to come up to the car and open it without having to pull out your phone?

Locking works just fine.

You can probably save some money and get a Pixel 2 XL as they will / are discounted because of the upcoming Pixel 3. I have the original Pixel XL and it is a great phone. It even opens the Model 3, most of the time. I do need to have the Model 3 selected in the App (instead of our X)

I would recommend Samsung galaxy whatever as well. They are one of the heavy hitters for android and are more supported than other android phones as they have more market share.

I have a Pixel 2 XL, works flawlessly. The Pixel 3 and 3 XL are coming out in October, I would recommend those

I do not recommend any galaxies. Feels too sharp on sides also and just not as good as the Note lineup. My note 8 works great with the model 3 (besides battery life). Better yet I recommend the Note 9.
