I just wonder how it is like to work for a company that brings up so many emotions. How do you guys deal with with the daily negative bias of the Mark B. Spiegels of the world and for a company under so much scrutiny?
We didn't care really... We drove the cars every day, saw the happiness (for the most part) the cars brought to people, we drove the competitor's vehicles... We knew that Tesla would and will stand the test of time. The cars are too damn good for the most part. People like to scrutinize and combat change and people/companies that make big splashes.
 
I have a 3 year old P85D, and my wife has a new 3LR. One problem I have with the 3 - and this is a question - is the charge port. One click on the connector handle, and the port on my S opens, with a range of at least 20 feet. On the 3, have to press and hold, wave it in circles, with a typical range of < 3 inches. Nashville SC says when they test it, the port behavior is normal. I have tried 3 different connectors, all with the same result. I no longer use it, I just press on the port itself.

Is the 3 supposed to have a very short range? Is there a way for my to check if the antennae for the charge port is actually connected? Or is there some pairing activity, or software update, that improves the range?
Not sure what's going on there, especially if the logs report normal functionality. The charge port sensor in the S/X is in the C pillar, so maybe try aiming it there on the 3?
 
Here's my question:

How come nobody knows how to answer the following question at Tesla:

"If I buy a used car from a first owner, am I eligible for the ESA?"

What a laughable joke that was trying to get the right answer.

Hmmm... Not really sure why people couldn't answer that. The ESA does not roll over into new ownership. You're also unable to get a new ESA. Maybe it's changed now- I'm not sure.

I don't think that's the case anymore.

I think it was a year or two ago that they changed it so that new owners could buy ESAs. Original owners could get a pro-rated refund on the unused portion of the ESA.

Read through ALL your posts and love the well explained first hand view to the most crucial part of buying a Tesla (and more). Appreciate it A LOT and please keep it up.
I asked my DeS prior to delivery if I'd be able to upgrade my S90D battery (3/2017 Facelift) to a 100 kW battery and he declined saying it will never happen as it is technically impossible. I understand if Tesla won't do it from a marketing perspective, but could it be that the DeC was only guessing? (At that time the battery was only offered in the P100DL and I really wanted and still want the higher range of the non-DL version. I wouldn't mind to pay a very hefty 90-100 kW upgrade price just to be able to keep my current -otherwise perfect- car).

To the best of my knowledge, you can't upgrade a 90 to a 100 kW. I remember that there was some mechanical/physical difference that wouldn't allow for a swap.

In all honesty, the range isn't really worth the huge financial costs if it could happen. Unless you're always almost running out of range on road trips (Which shouldn't happen in a 90D), I don't see why it'd be necessary for a few extra miles.

The best way around this is to just trade her in for a 100D! I get the sentiment of your car being yours, but from my experience delivering 100's and 100's of vehicles, and taking in tons of used Teslas, they're all pretty much the same inside and out.

If you love your car, just keep it and continue to love and enjoy it :)
 
Are delivery specialists and other Tesla staff trained to not say “I don’t know”? It sure seems that way, with all the stuff they make up when they don’t know an answer to something, when a better answer would be “I don’t know but I’ll find out for you.”
That's an awesome question. They say some crazy *sugar*. It's kind of scary how much better informed I am about Tesla than their employees on the showroom floors.
