Just saw a patient in the ICU this afternoon. Involved in motor vehicle accident with rollover. Car caught fire and occupant trapped. 89% total body surface burns on a ventilator. He wasn't in a Tesla. Glad I am in mine...
But the media says this stuff only happens in Tesla's ? Oh wait, they only burn up? Wait, only the front end? And wait, no passenger injuries in the tesla incidents. Hope the person mentioned above makes it.

that's messed up. I'm glad my Tesla is apparently very safe, but these are still lives being lost here
Sad, I wonder if Toyota will retro fit my highlander with a titanium shield to help mitigate this in the future? Ok no I don't wonder, I know they won't.
What's so frightening about gasoline fires is how rapidly they start and how impossible they are to put out once they do, as this unfortunate case with the Toyota shows. What reassured me from the Tesla fires was how slow they were to start, even the violent crash in Mexico, and how quickly they were extinguished - 30 seconds in the Mexico crash. There's no extinguishing a full on gasoline fire, as this poor soul, Paul Walker, Michael Hastings, and far too many others have sadly found out.
