I know I started this at a waiting room thread but as I started it, and now I get to know some of you here, I consider it also of the ongoing IDAHO thread. So here is my trip report, the first time trying to head north up through Idaho and Montana and off the beaten path.

Had my first trip (2022 MYLR) up to Montana and back, from Hailey up to Bozeman and back, this weekend. No problems, perhaps a bit of range anxiety on the way back as we went from Bozeman through Dillon to Lima. And cut it a little close on starting charge in Bozeman. Used Superchargers the whole way. Was no issue by just slowing down. Came into Lima at 8%. Realized after the fact That I could've cut the anxiety by finding the ultimate charger at the University and Dillon. My take is that I prefer to go through Idaho Falls, and West Yellowstone as we did on the way up to Bozeman rather than the more desert route unless for some reason we absolutely have to go to Dylan to go to the Patagonia store. Prettier drive too. 😉

I think they could use a Supercharger or equivalent in Arco. And White Hall on I-90. That would help the desert I-15 route. Second real road trip. First one is the easy Hailey to SLC route.

Oh, forgot to mention, having two bikes on a rack on the back made me question rightly the range estimates and adjust speed. I think I prefer to take routes that have more chargers so I can drive faster, and stop when needed.

But the trip worked out great, and was a whole lot better than fueling the truck.

Other notes, was carrying 3 bikes (one inside to deliver to MSU attending daughter), two humans, and gear. No room issues at all. I LOVE my Y!!

Well, I said I was going to hold off, but now I think I will go for some PPF at least on the front. I went to expel and it seemed VERY high. Any advice from anyone in the Idaho community that could lead me to a better option for some partial PPF?

Trying to remain a little budget conscious since you all know how easy it is to go down the 10k Tesla rabbit hole with accessories !!!
I am happy with my folks down in Utah. But it is a drive.

Well, I finally joined the Tesla ownership group yesterday picking up my Model Y in Boise. Delivery went fairly smooth, although I felt like they wanted to rush me a little since they had a few others scheduled as well. Felt a little cheated getting my car from Austin instead of Fremont since I didn't get the new Matrix lights (that they are now providing for a while), or the new door trim, and I didn't even get the mobile connector (just a voucher to have one shipped at a later date.) Also, since it was made in Austin I didn't get the small PPF patch or the mud flaps. (they said they will schedule an appointment, when they are back in stock.)

The car had a couple of flaws in the paint, but nothing to refuse over. Got it home and immediately went to work on the ceramic coating which I did myself. A big thanks to "csrpenfab" for all of the help with instruction and for leading towards the best product. I used "Avalon King" if anyone is interested, and it was fairly straight forward even for a novice like me. It was a little long (5hrs.) to complete all the steps. Wash, clay bar, iso alc, prep and then the application of the ceramic coating. It turned out great, and I am sure it will never look better than it does this morning. I will send pics in an upcoming post.

Love the car so far, however I am lost trying to apply all the tech. I am sure that will come with time. One thing I did get was one year of premium connectivity...I thought that was only one month? Oh well, I'll take it.

The 261 day wait is over. Let the adventure begin...
Congrats! Sorry I missed this!

Glad you had a great trip!

Just so you know. From what I can tell, Tesla is focusing on interstate access for flyover country. Maybe we'll get surprised, but I wouldn't hold my breath for Arco.

However, the state has plans for a CCS for Arco next year! So, if you haven't, get a CCS adapter. (Bonus: EA CCS charging is free right now). Here are the planned installations for the state:

yeah, I was googling around As I knew the state had been considering where to put some chargers and that the Idaho Tesla FB group in Boise had mentioned going to giving input. Which I did not mention to do. Did see Arco on there, which is good! It is such a Common way of traveling east and west for people who live in my area that the one little charger will not end up being enough in the long run, but it's good that it is there in a pinch.

Was surprised NOT to see one going in in Stanley. I suppose no land/business owner applied.

Will be nice when Tesla gets around to more in the interior of places, and also as more of these government funded/assisted ones come online.

Is the Lewiston one you have used the one that the new money is covering? I know Hailey's is already in. And it looks like it must be based on this article.

My wife Apparently likes to stop in Dillon if she's headed up that direction. So maybe there will be some more expansion there. As I said, lima to Hailey, and Lee may to Bozeman, not stopping in Butte, is pushing it, especially if there are any factors reducing range. I like the drive through Idaho Falls and West Yellowstone and up through Big Sky better myself anyway, but I guess for visits up there, we can mix it up if we want, now that I am getting the hang of managing range and learning about finding other chargers. I do have the CCS adapter and the J1772, along with my 14-50 and of course the 5-15. I have the 10-30 just in case I ended up at some little old mom and pop RV park some day that had old electrical service.

I think one of the big things For me this trip was expanding my understanding of watching the destination charge percentage and learning how to manipulate that with my driving. Of course it was a pretty ideal driving day so that could be scarier in inclement weather. But definitely feeling more comfortable with road tripping.

I did attend one of the state meetings and endorsed McCall (or maybe New Meadows since that would have covered 95 better), Grangeville and Kamiah.
This will make it possible now to go from McCall (or Boise) to Missoula through Idaho including most places in between, which was not realistically possible (unless you took a few days to do it) over Lolo Pass.

Yes, the money for Lewiston goes to the functioning charger at the Casino. The Tribe isn't waiting for the federal government or the state to transition as much as they can.

I did endorse Stanley and thought it was important, but obviously someone decided no. Our only option that I know of is to top off at the private campground this side of Stanley. Owners are supportive and will let you level II charge there.

Good deal on the new Room!

I think I read an article about a new supercharger being installed in Island Park as well which would be a nice addition.

We did a trip from Idaho Falls to Sundance UT and I was super nervous about the reaction my wife would have about the whole stopping to charge. On the way down we had to hit Tremonton for 10-15 min and on way home we hit Pocatello for 20 min. (We started from downtown SLC on way home). She said it wasn’t bad at all and it was nice to break up the trip. I was pleasantly surprised by the comment.

Please don’t judge but we actually have a Mach-E GT performance on a train en-route for her. I’ve convinced her to give up the big giant SUV. She said she would be more comfortable with the Mustang as it looks more like a normal car to her. That’s fine, we are taking baby steps. For bigger trips that we don’t want to deal with charging we will take my Super Duty with a Titan tank (1000 mile range 😬)

And for medium trips Tesla all the way cause I know superchargers will work. Wasn’t too impressed by all the Charge Points in Utah. Most of them didn’t work which was disappointing. The one at Sundance where we were staying kept erroring out on us which was very annoying. It will be nice once the Orem/Provo Super Charger is in.

Yes, Island Park city building is on the list for CCS1.

Good for you getting her to accept the MachE as a transition vehicle vs sticking with ICE. I hope you don't have to deal with the battery problem. I would be too afraid.

For now, there's definitely a place for ICE for function. Hopefully range won't be the driving feature much longer. Like, in a year or two, infrastructure bill money will fix and improve CCS, and that plus Superchargers will let us relax a bit.

no judgment here! I thought the Mustang looked like a pretty cool car though I preferred the model Y. But certainly would not judge anyone for choosing it. I had not heard about the mustang battery issue. What's up?

I liked the Idaho Falls charging situation And location and the Ramen place provides smewhere ok to eat. The Lima station is sure out in the middle of nowhere!

But hey! We are driving around Ontario mountain states and making it happen without too much problem! Pretty amazing really!

I still have my Dodge 2500 diesel pick up that carries our camper and pulls the boat for for when we need to pull or carry something heavy. Basically real truck stuff. I don't think it's quite ready for it service when there is any mileage out in the middle of Idaho. So we'll ckeep that but just drive it less for now.

The big battery contactors overheat and weld, resulting in the need to replace the battery. It happens with a combination of high speed (like Idaho interstate) driving and Level III / DC charging. There's a software patch, which basically keeps you from driving your car fast, I guess, but I've read that there are cars with replacement batteries and software patches that have had this happen. In other words, unless my Google search this morning missed it, it's not fixed. It affects all of the cars built.

I am hoping that it won't be a big problem for @jstepy since it sounds like they will be using it for local driving. And they are home charging.

Yes, I Quoted myself as I can't edit. I meant interior, not Ontario. I am using Siri because I have a wrist tendinitis issue that I'm trying to calm down. Please excuse Siri errors in the meantime.

I had a great first Tesla mobile service visit today. The frunk on my 2022 MYP was not staying in the raised position, so I scheduled a service call. The tech arrived in a Model S at the time slot given and he quickly fixed the problem.

The ball end of one of the gas struts that holds the frunk open had come unthreaded, and the tech said it was the first time he'd seen this issue. Quick 5 minute fix to install a new strut.

He also noticed while the cowl cover was off that one of the washer fluid hoses was barely attached (common assembly issue from what he said). He checked and secured all of the hoses. When I mentioned that my washer fluid was empty, he went to his model S and got two jugs to refill it for me. Easy peasy!

Total visit time was about 5 minutes and very smooth.

Was looking at the map this morning, and to get straight up to Missoula from Sun Valley Stanley would be very nice, and then something else between Salmon and Missoula, though I think there may be some CCS going in and out there somewhere on that strip. And also Challis would be nice.

There may well be projects that will go ahead without grant money. The list only involves those.
