The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical society dedicated to the advancement of technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE-USA's mission is to recommend policies and implement programs specifically intended to serve and benefit the members, the profession and the public in the United States in appropriate professional areas of economic, ethical, legislative, social and technology policy concern.
This IEEE USA National Energy Policy Committee Report was published in early 2014. https://www.ieeeusa.org/policy/positions/IEEE-USA-NEPR-2014.pdf
Committee members represent a diverse group of scientists and engineers with considerable experience in the field. https://www.ieeeusa.org/volunteers/committees/epc/documents/2014EPCROSTER.pdf
The report places considerable emphasis on the need for vehicle electrification as well as upgrading the power grid to allow for the increased penetration of renewables at scale. I hope some of you will find this document of interest and that it might stimulate some discussion about our long term energy policy goals as well as the leadership role that Tesla Motors is playing in this space.
