I'm an idiot lol — installed NEMA 6-50 instead of 14-50

Ok I'll buy that didn't see that at their site earlier... do you think the gen 1 are still ok? Any reason why they switched from that to gen 2?

The Gen 1 adapters allow faster charging up to 40 Amps... the Gen 2 adapters are limited to 32 Amps maximum.

You will get a faster charging speed of 37 mph if you have LR or Performance Model 3... the SR charges at 30 mph maximum.

Just buy the adapter from Tesla........... Don’t waste your time and money calling the electrician back.

+2 !!

Your 6-50 is fine ! I have installed every receptacle (except the 10-30 since it hasn't been to code for some 40 years on new construction since it isn't a grounded receptacle) and charged on every outlet that Tesla offers adapters for on both Gen I 40a UMC and Gen II 32a MC along with HPWCs. The very smart overworked youngster running the charging program just isn’t up to speed on making the NEMA 6-50 the default 240v charging outlet since there isn’t an EV in N. America that uses the neutral conductor for 240v charging and it is just a waste of copper pulling a 4th unused conductor. The neutral prong on both the Gen I and Gen II are dummy/dead prongs and not recognized by either the brick or the car. The 14-50 is a carryover from the days when we had to charge at campgrounds to road trip before the supercharger network was deployed.

tip.....since you mentioned you are a newbie, you only want to charge to 100% shortly before departing for a long trip where you need the full range. I have charged to 100% on only 8 occasions on my 6.5 year old P85 and haven’t had the need to charge to 100% on my 1.5 year old M3 yet.

Good luck!
