I'm building a Model S opportunity console for my own use. If I can get it up to the quality standards I'm aiming for, at a fair price point, I'd look at selling them as well.

So, what are some features you would want in this console?

    For myself, I'm making:

    Larger cupholders
iPhone/Blackberry/android charging bays where I can see the screen at a glance while driving
    Lockable storage compartment
Buit-in 120v Plug powered from the 12v outlet

    Thanks

Not to stifle competition of course, but there's already a pretty active thread, with much discussion, detailing Soflauthor's foray into doing the same.

    Good for you!!!!

I'd be really interested in seeing how your alpha design looks compared to soflauthor's design......

to answer your question....i think i'd be primarily looking for a cup holder or two that was more forward oriented, a hidden storage area for bits and bobs....and personally, I would hide those usb ports and the AC adapter in it!!!

    1) I think it's a little sad on Tesla's part that people have to resort to building their own opportunity console. The fact that there are several people looking to get into this new "business" makes me lose a little faith in Tesla.

    2) However, I do prefer the flat, open space in the middle b/c it exemplifies the "no middle hump" unique design.

    3) What I dislike is the arm rest and cup holders. The cup holders are too high up and too far back for easy reach and the arm rest doesn't open up to hidden storage (which are the things that the opportunity console builders are trying to address).

    4) The high-tech car / low-tech arm rest dichotomy is disappointingly ironic.

You surely can't be serious. There's a huge aftermarket business for almost every brand, populated by entrepreneurs who've figured out improvements on the manufacturer's work. Why should Tesla be any different? No car is perfect for every owner and the aftermarket business takes advantage of that simple fact.

+1--manufactures target the average. But many people want to customize for their own style, habits and needs.

I really hope that TMC starts a store similar to the one at Priuschat Shop that has front sunscreen shades, decals, trim options and other features for each of us to customize. It would be great if there were several opportunity console options to choose from.

Mod Note: Seeing as Soflauthor will also be posting in the parts for sale section, I moved both threads here.

Super agree. Visit any car forum and you will find garage made accessories and electronic hacks and home brew fixes by the hundreds.

BTW there are entire industries the serve to sell both generic and car specific floor mat consuls, seat covers, cup holders etc etc.

Sector 111 is a business that sells to the Lotus brand (mostly the Elise) . Lotus sells about the same amount of cars at Tesla will be next year. There are two more companies that serve aftermarket Lotus parts in EU. A whole cottage industry from just one tiny brand.

Good luck with your project. It's a really enjoyable journey, and competition is great. I think we can both succeed in filling (no pun intended :)) a compelling need for at least some Model S owners.

An easy access "holster" for a CCW.
A false bottom to hide "illegal" items. ie: Susy Q's, Marlboro's, etc...

I also feel like ModelS that I'd like to do my own console.

Since I don't have access to a MS for scanning/measurement, it's been hard to get the interior measurements to begin my drawings; but, my January/February Silver60 will be here soon!

That's funny, I just started cutting my center 'console' Lacewood last night and testing the Analine dye on it.

Should be Sweeet with mostly black + red strips to match the seats
Mine will be just a flat center wood piece to make it look like nothing is there in the middle at all - I'll update my thread with it. NFS but I'd maybe do more at cost or so.

Since Tesla says that you aren't allowed to 'alter' the car, I had to find something to do to it

Nice USB relocation. This is a "rough" version or close to final?
