In 2nd quarter, almost one out of 20 vehicles sold was zero emission (4.9%) in Canada

Of those, 49.1% were sold in Québec and 24% in BC. All is not lost for the other provinces, more zero-emission vehicles were registered in every province in the second quarter year over year (although last year was 2020 so it's not hard to beat). Registrations grew at the fastest pace in Prince Edward Island (+320.0%), New Brunswick (+277.4%), Ontario (+210.7%), Saskatchewan (+185.7%) and Manitoba (+136.9%).

Nice to see the numbers up, but they include plug-in hybrids in the zero-emission category.

In Quebec you can get government rebates (4K QC + 2.5K Fédéral) for vehicles with toy batteries and all-electric ranges of less than 25 km.

They should eliminate this waste to allow more all-electric vehicles to qualify for incentives.

For many, 25 km is more than enough to drive to work and drive to work and back is probably 75% of their weekly driving.
Except the 25 km cars can't even do 5 km without burning gas in many cases---due to their tiny electric motors the ICE kicks in typically under heavy acceleration or when driving over 70 kph. Then there's a big problem in Canada : the ICE must run for cabin heat or defrost.
