Thanks Rolf, I might ask some more questions about the cutting and reworking :) I was hoping the street series would work. This is getting pretty expensive :(

The reworking of the ABS holder and the complete replacement was made by a local Lotus specialist. It took something like half a day to get the work done. The longest part was to adapt the holder.

If I remember correctly, it did cost me about 2700 € (all included, the parts and the installation) .

It's true it's expensive but much less than what a replacement by Tesla did cost when they still made it.

I use mine as a daily driver with maybe a couple of autoslalom events a year. So I think they look pretty perfect.
Seems like I will have to do the same modification. I don't really get what the problem is. Does the passenger side front damper fit perfectly, but not the driver side?

Hello. Yes I'm happy with the Nitro Clubsports. They feel a bit different than the Bildstein, but it's hard to describe. But nothing too widely different don't worry. I also use my roadster as daily driver (202237 km yet) and I'm not a track maniac, so I cannot jusdge if those are also made for race or something like that. They do their job and it's enough for my needs ;)

The modification consists in cutting a part of the metal piece holding the ABS pump, or something related to the ABS system, and mage a new system to screw all in place. It took the guys a bit more than 1.5 hours to do that quietly.

On this site you'll see the part on the 3 last pictures.

first one is the originale piece as removed from the car, flipped 90 degres. They removed the "L" metal part where originaly the Bildstein fitted in. On the last 2 pictures I put some yello highlight to show where the modifications where made to hald everything together.

Is the part that dues not fit just nr.1? or nr.2?
If the problem is just nr.1, would it not be easy just to file it off to make a little less wide?

I'd say the problem is both 1 and 2 .

To check, just remove your front driver wheel and look at how it's made. You'll have a better view if you remove the wheel arch too because there's a lot hidden behind. It's easy to do and worth the look ;)

I just checked both front sides today, and I still don't get how it could fit on one side but not the other. It looks like both sides have the same L bracket on the bottom part that holds the damper. They are both 4,5cm wide the top 5cm and then widen out to 5cm the rest. The angle of the two sides also look identical. The only difference is the top part over the damper, which should not interfere with the damper at all?

Hummm, I just looked at your pictures. The difference is that on the passenger side you don't have the extra metal plate over the L to hold the ABS. Maybe the guy who installed the Nitro did just make a little adjustement on the piece for it to fit, and it was such a minimal work that he did not mention it to me. I'll have a look at the passenger side tomorrow if I see something special.
 
Correct me if I’m totally wrong but I’m pretty sure the bracket that bolts the shock is supplied with the new shocks as they are wider than the originals on the roadster and the lotus. The part re-used is the ABS holder and that’s grafted to the new bracket supplied with the front shocks. I don’t believe you keep the shock mount from either side.

Hummm, that's a great hint yes. I don't remember all the parts that were included with the Nitro but you might be right about that. I'll have a closer look tomorrow and I'll see if the bracket is a new one on the passenger side. Thanks :)

Aaaaha, well that makes a LOT more sense! Ok, then it should be a relatively easy job.
Thanks again for all the help! Will put in the order asap then. Looking forward to getting a proper sorted car again. There should be no need for a wheel alignment since it's just new dampers right?

Hello There

X.l.r.8 you're a genius ;) This morning I had a look at the passenger side front suspension, and the bracket looks new. So that must be the reason this side does not require modification, you can just swap this piece easily there :)

About the alignment, they did not do one after the change.

Got my dampers some days ago and am getting ready to install now. I just ordered them directly from Nitron.
Even though they do not have Tesla on the site they already had finished kits that were ready to install and they recommended the Fast Road kit, since the closest thing I do to track racing is some autoslalom events.

I did notice that the spring rates on mine were different from @Rolf68 ?

R: Spring rate fitted front : 450 lbs Helper 250 lbs - H: Spring rate fitted front : 550 lbs Helper 150 lbs
R: Spring rate fitted rear: 600 lbs Helper 300 lbs - H: Spring rate fitted rear: 700 lbs Helper 150 lbs

So the total on the front is the same, but back is 50lbs less. Wonder how this will affect the drive.

If I remember correctly, the original total on the rear Bilstein was 900. I have no clue if 50 less will affect the car in any way :p It doesn't sounds to be a great difference to me, but I'm not a car specialist ;)

The rear damper was pretty much the same length as the old. But the new front is a lot shorter. Do I just turn the shim things with the tool on the picture. Or will that mess up something else. I assume the car will be as much lower as the damper is shorter?

Just want to inform others who might read this thread in search for Nitrons on the Tesla Roadster.
"Lotus Elise S2 (K-Series) (02-05) NTR Race 1-Way 46mm" as mentioned above is for the Rover based Lotus (K-Series). The Tesla Roadster is based on the Toyota version of the lotus made from 2004+.
The difference of the Rover and the Toyota version of the shocks is that the Rover (K-series) are 6cm (2,36 inches) shorter than the Toyota ones, which are used on the Roadster.

I learned this the hard way, just want to inform so others don't make the same mistake :)
