I'm about to pick up our M3. Until I buy a more appropriate drive, I'd like to plug this in for sentry and dashcam recordings: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F9V72H4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's 256 G. Will that work? I also have one of these (in 32 G) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G3X98NV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I've formatted both in DOS (FAT32) and created a single folder called TeslaCam. Am I good to go? Thanks.
Should be good. I did mine for the first time today, using the steps you're describing. Worked as expected.
Both will work- but 32GB is too small for any long term use... the dashcam system writes 7.2GB an hour- meaning it'll eat through a full write cycle on a 32GB drive in less than 4.5 hours... so you're eating 2 cycles per day even if you only are using it for say an hour of driving and 8 hours parked at work. That's gonna kill a cheap no-name drive in not much more than a year. More like 6 months if you run it 24/7. (and less if you save any significant amount of video for long) The 256GB drive on the other hand, even if it was cheap quality stuff, would be good roughly 8 times longer
