Don’t dash cams usually face the other direction?

Could it be for the future Tesla Network? I'm sure owners will want to have footage of passengers if they cause damage to the car, which I'm sure will be tempting for mischievous folks with no driver there to supervise.

My guess it's for taking selfies while driving. I'll bet you can upload directly to Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etcetera. ;)

Yes, though some systems have additional cameras, for rearview, interior, and even side views. Obviously each view needs its own camera, so more expensive.

It's to protect tesla from lawsuits. It will tell them if you're paying attention to your driving or not.
Hands on the wheel? etc. Proof.

I hope it's both a source of video surveillance for using your car on the Tesla Network and some form of visual computer detection of your attention.

Could also be used for security while you are away.

All cameras should be utilised to upload footage to a cloud account, for a monthly fee. That way don't need to install dashcams.
    Might slow the mobile network....

Forget all this Tesla Network/Autonomous Uber stuff, the inside camera is clearly ideal for those situations where you want to remake The Blues Brothers and Witness.

So, full list of possible reasons that I've seen here and elsewhere:

    * Tesla Network - security cam for people in your vehicle
    * Autopilot (not FSD) - ensuring you are looking at the road. (similar to the steering wheel sensor now)
    * In case of accident where Autopilot is blamed - see what driver was doing at the time
    * Voice control - works alongside microphone to lip read and/or ensure that commands can only come from the driver, not from passengers or other audio sources
    * Security - identify the driver via facial recognition before allowing them to start the car
    * Safety - Identify movement in the vehicle - combine with temperature sensor to prevent overheating
    * Selfies

The facial recognition stuff may seem far fetched but stuff like that is build into Windows 10 these days... It's just software.

I don't think facial recognition as much as face tracking which is far more useful for safety.
