Insurance Cost

Hi there, first post on this forum as I'm a 2 week old Tesla owner.
Love the car, it really is fabulous in so many ways.
I do have a question tho, does anyone know where the est and most cost effective insurance is please.
My employer pays for this, however the premium has gone up heavily. I have no points or claims on my licence and am in my mid 50s, so its come as a shock.
Any help appreciated

First post, new owner, not sure where my original post has gone, however I'll try again.
My employer who pays the insurance on my Model 3 has said the Premium has risen by £1500.
Does anyone know where I can get the best insurance at a lower cost, or is this the norm?

Insurance is not one person fits all. Factors such as employment, credit rating, driving record, age, gender, location, AND type of car make a difference, to name a few. I would bet that you know this, because most of us have learned it the hard way. So, you need to do your own research because no one knows your information/background/history better than yourself. Since forum members know nothing about you, its not reasonable to expect anyone to match their profile without knowing your profile to you so they could say, for instance, "hey, you are just like me, call these people".. Asking here is not going to help.

OK well thanks for your warm welcome, I am aware that insurance is not one person fits all, so I do find your answer quite patronising, it was a genuine question if anyone knew anywhere that specialised in Tesla insurance, but you seem like you took great pleasure in leaping on someone who was asking a generic question.
I am in the UK, not sure where you are but certainly this will be my last post on here if people are like you.
Whats your handle? A' lo ha? I thought that was a kind of friendly greeting.
Well you win, ill join another forum

Have you attempted yet to contact other insurance providers to get quotes? That's the only way, really, to determine what the price might be for you. With the extremely limited information given in your post, it would be impossible for anyone to reasonably suss out why your costs might have gone up so much.

Hi,

Your first post is still here (the one you mention is missing), it has not been moved or anything. It just doesnt have any replies, and this is a very busy board so it might have gotten pushed off the first page quickly:
Insurance Cost

You also might consider asking your question in the part of TMC specific to Europe, since (as you mention you are aware) insurance costs are specific to location, among other things.

Europe -

Of course, this is a general question and you have a model 3 so I am not saying you cant post here, but you are more likely to get someone "closer" to your location in the europe subform.

In any case, insurance is very hard to compare between people online, but it sounds like you know that already. good luck.

First post, which you posted 7 MINUTES before this one, is still there...

If insurance companies in the UK are anything like the US, there is a WIDE range of premiums for Teslas. Mine cost me the same as for my 2010 Lexus. As another person pointed out, get quotes from other companies/agents.

Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as Insurance that specializes in Teslas. Even Tesla Insurance can be more expensive than common insurance carriers.

The only way you’re going to get a somewhat accurate answer is if you publish *all* of your personal information in this post for someone to call insurance companies with. It sucks, but that’s the only way others can help. :/

Thanks for the reply , as I say I was asking about whether there are companies that specialise in Tesla insurance. Obviously they would get my details if there is one.
No worries, thanks again

There is in the US but its only available to people in California at this time. Tesla has its own insurance company but the scope is very small. Other than that, while there are no companies that specialize in teslas there ARE companies that seemingly dont want to be bothered with them, at least in the US.

Unfortunately, the only way to find that out is by getting a quote from them. At least in my situation, even with no tickets / accidents, etc, I found a large spread in price between insurance companies on a yearly rate for my model 3. I am talking SEVERAL hundred dollars difference, yearly with "several" being "more than 600 dollars".

Maybe its different where you are, but you will see who wants to insure a tesla and who doesnt by the pricing they come back with. Again in my case, I had an insurance company I had been with for more than a decade, that also insured my home (as well as both my and my wifes cars) and also an umbrella policy, and they were the highest to insure my model 3 by over 600 more than the one I chose, which was NOT the cheapest, but also a well known company).

I told them I keep all my insurance together, so they were going to lose me for everything if I swapped my car, and they basically said "sorry to hear that", we have attached all the discounts you qualify for to your quote.

So, basically, you will find out when you quote around who wants to insure a tesla and who doesnt.

I’m with USAA. I haven’t shopped around in a while but I seem to remember Progressive having good rates.

I’ve never heard of an employer paying for car insurance (unless driving is a part of your job!) Pretty nice perk!

Right now I pay $79/month with Wawanesa, but that’s paired with my wife’s insurance on her Pacifica. I checked it against Tesla insurance and a comparable plan came out to $97/month.
Do you mind to share your coverage ? I got with wawanesa 109 and any other company at higher rate including tesla insurance.. that is in south California and with perfect record
