I would say not even Tesla knows. First Tesla has to complete the acquisition of SolarCity. Then they have to design the product, then manufacture the product, then sell the product.

I think they should do a reasonable market assessment for solar roofs, contact dozens of new home constructors, determine cost and market value, figure out zoning ordinances and see how easily they can be integrated into new construction in order to determine if the product should be made. And before even discussing it as a direction.
I like the idea of a turn key new home with solar roof, backup power already in place and ready to go on day 1 without fuss or muss. But what are the numbers?
