Well I've not yet even got my Model S, but I've documented my saga of wanting one up until the VIN yesterday on Facebook and it seems friends of friends keep sharing this so now when ever I go somewhere it feels as if the whole Estonia knows that I'm buying a Model S. Just yesterday I gave a talk at a conference and at the reception I had about 10% question about my dogs, 20% questions about my talk and 70% questions about Tesla Model S. In the end I was just standing at a standup eating desk with some people around me that constantly expanded or shuffled where every newcomer was drawn by the discussion on the Model S and immediately started the whole battery of standard questions:
* You have really ordered it?
* But can you even cover the distance between Tartu-Tallinn (187km ~ 120 miles)
* What do you mean back and forth, definitely not during winter
* But will it even be warm
* But how long does it charge
* Surely the charging network here is incompatible
* What does it cost
* Does the government give incentives for it too
* What do you mean you will get by with 20-30 eur / month for electricity
* How long does the battery last
* But surely it'll only have 20% remaining capacity after 3 years
* ...
What actually surprised me was how many people knew about Tesla and the Model S. Estonia is outside of the core market, there is no Tesla store, there are no Teslas around (though I think the casino chain owner had a Roadster). People of course had heard about the fire and some had heard about it being the most sold car in Norway. A lot of people were really positive about it and would want one too, but consider it too expensive even with the 18keur incentive. But most agree either immediately or after asking the questions that this is indeed the best looking electric car and overall a good looking car.
I know already of 1-2 other Model S's that will arrive in January. I have already ~10 people in friends list who are itching to see it once it gets here and I hear remote talk about friends of friends mentioning that they should start to become my friends just to see the car
It's a bit bizarre so I'm slowly starting to get the stories of every trip taking twice as long because of the constant "harassment" with questions
So I guess gauging all of this interest if the Model S is followed by a Model E that hits the right price point there will tons of people all around the world who will want one. They already want the Model S, just can't afford it.
