Inventory Vehicle Purchase - Warning

If these cars are New Inventory... wouldn't there be an option for a warranty?

For inventory cars, the standard 4 year 50k warranty applies; however, it starts on the mileage/date you take delivery. Thus if you get a car with 1,200 miles on it, its 4 years from delivery date, or 51,200 miles if hit earlier then then. Will be eligible for ESA if that ever comes out... (grin)

Interesting. That is how the CPO warranty works (the 4 year, 50k miles starts whenever you take delivery) but I've got an inventory car coming and was specifically told that the 4-year, 50k miles started at birth so I get less warranty - and that's part of why it was discounted.

Of course like most Tesla policies it's probably not written down anywhere, so different employees will give different answers...

Well this pretty much mirrors my recent experience with my X. I traded in my P85D on an inventory X, loaded with 1200 miles on it with a $5k discount. Ended up having to drive down to pick it up in D.C. from Pittsburgh since I was not interested in waiting a month for them to deliver the car. I showed up at the store and first thing I noticed was a huge chunk missing from the rear wheel. This wasn't simply a scuff, this was a chuck taken out where someone hit a curb. Must have busted the tire when that happened since the damage was pretty deep. I pointed it out to the delivery specialist and they just played dumb. "We didn't notice that" was the response I got. I noticed it from 12 feet away. I inspected the other wheels and sure enough there was curb rash on the other wheel as well. I asked them to replace the wheels. "Sorry but there is no stock of black 22's anywhere in the system... we might have it in six months." I made them give me an IOU for the wheels. Be sure to get it in writing from them. When I called after I got home that was the first thing they asked me. "Did you get an IOU". So if I didn't you would have tried to deny the issue? Really guys? My local Tesla guy was able to find a wheel within a few days so I just assume they didn't want to handle the problem at the dealership. Great service guys. When I got the vehicle home I noticed that the interior falcon wing door switch was broken. I guess they didn't notice that as well. This is the second Tesla I have purchased and the first one was equally a major pain in the ass transaction. I am not sure what the deal is with their sales process. Inventory cars are not getting "up to our standards" reconditioning. I don't believe that for one second. Each time I have dealt with them it has always felt like I had to pull teeth to get through the sales process. Maybe my experience is an exception. So far I have dealt with two different locations and each time I have had pre and post sales issues. Called a few days ago since it had been three weeks since I picked it up to check on my plate registration. My call reminded them to submit the paperwork. Wow. so If i hadn't called my temp plate would have just expired. Love the car...hate the sales process.

Who inspects these cars?? My new X came with missing screws on the rear under shield, and I found another one under the front door.

While my MX was in the shop for 3+ weeks, they gave me loaner MS P90DL with only 900 miles. I put in 4k miles and drove it pretty hard during this time with many launch mode demos to friends. I was very surprised when they later told that the loaner had been sold and they needed to try and get me back into my MX ASAP. Felt a little guilty for pushing it a bit hard.

Lol! Did you also notice in the loaner agreement that you're not supposed to go faster than 80mph? I'd be willing to bet you passed 80 at some point (I certainly did. Kinda hard not to when freeway speed limits are 70 to 80 around here. And I was trying to gauge performance difference between an S P85+, and my X 90D).

Haha same situation here. Model X is still at service going on week SIX now. But driving the heck out of this p85d model s. 3k miles so far.

I've seen a couple of people stating these long periods of service. It amazes me that no one really takes the Lemon Laws to full when this happens. Sure the car is worth the wait in a sense, but being 6 weeks without the car I purchased would be pretty annoying for me.

I pick mine up this Saturday. Appears to be in great cosmetic & functional shape per the SC - "impeccable" even to quote. Ordered Augustin 18th, so will have taken 3 weeks and 2 days to get ahold of an inventory model.

After I have it a bit I'll report back on experience, hopefully positively. Otherwise I'll be posting on other threads with issues hehehe. Nah, I expect it to be a problem free car overall, but understand that 1-2 things could occur over time in something this complex and new in its 1st year. Definitely don't expect horror stories like you see on here though sometimes.

I have heard that so many times before.

Ha, thanks for the discouragement, ug. Nah, your probably right though. The Chicago SC received the car and did their inspection, and found that the liftgate alignment is off, much larger gap on right side versus left, so they are trying to get that fixed in next day before delivery - all else fine apparently.

Alignment issues on a car, are somewhat ridiculous, even if its a VIN 8000+.

Update on my inventory purchase. Won't be ready for pickup as planned, Tesla called me here the night before pickup and shop didn't finish its repairs. Thus, next week, likely Monday. It's good they found an alignment issue and want to proactively fix it, but just a bit annoying that it wasn't found in first inspection, then sat for a week, and then after arriving to new location and being found still takes another 5 or so days for fix.

Totally peeved at this of course.

They are trying though. I'm supposed to pickup a loaner MX still tomorrow, when I should have taken delivery of my own, to use until mine is 100% ready finally. That is of course good service, but just a follow-up to an otherwise not so good few weeks since order delivery process for an inventory.

I'd prefer to learn on a loaner X. Could be way worse without a loaner. Enjoy the free miles with a trail run.

The plus for now is I did get a P90DL X as a loaner for few days. Hopefully mine is ready on Mon/Tue. Little paranoid since to align the rear hatch they have to disassemble the entire hatchback, glass, spoiler, trim, etc. Hopefully the body shop reassembles it well.
