When do they connect the app? I'm guessing at delivery? Would be cool if the app started working at the factory so you could track delivery:)

Our 70D was delivered yesterday at the Fremont factory in the morning. At about 11AM, we clicked the 'Accept Delivery' button on the My Tesla website that we previously used to track vehicle production progress. I tried using the app all day. I even called technical support to try to get it to work sooner! After speaking to a nice support person named Hunter, I was informed that the paperwork for my car needed to be processed. I called the delivery center before they closed to see if they can do anything to speed it up. They basically informed me that it typically takes 48 hours.

Once the My Tesla site no longer showed "Production Complete," and it showed nothing but my VIN, the app started working. It worked at around 11:30PM the same day as delivery.

Not sure if it was because I called or not though!

Mine was working 24 hours after delivery. And that was on a Sunday morning.

My Tesla App was operational when I first checked soon after I got home, not 1 hour after delivery ...but from some comments here on TMC, I also think I had one of the best, most efficient, and proactive Delivery Specialists ever -- Thanks Mike @ San Diego if you're stealthily reading this!

You know, being able to track your status through the app would make A LOT of sense...

Perhaps, but that sort of changes what I suspect the App in it's present form is intended for. Right now, the App appears to be VIN-centric, not an alternative "My Tesla" portal. I had the App installed and attempted to sign-in with just My Tesla credentials soon after I ordered, but the little Tesla logo just spun around until I opened the App again after having connected my VIN to My Tesla during orientation or whatever my DS did behind the scenes while I was traveling home with my new toy on delivery day.

I've read that years ago the app did work before delivery. And Tesla employees and others quickly tired of new owners honking car horns, and otherwise messing with the cars that were not yet delivered. So the days of the app being enabled before delivery understandably did not last long.

I'm taking delivery Tuesday. I didn't even think to check before delivery. Actually -- I didn't even think to download the app before delivery. So, guess what?? I downloaded the app just checked -- not working yet. Hopefully shortly after delivery.

The afternoon of March 5, 2013 I was waiting for a delayed flight home from O'Hare. I spoke to my DS at the Watertown (MA) Service Center to confirm my S85 had arrived and was being prepped for my evening pickup the next day. I was going nuts waiting so pleaded to him to turn on remote access. He did, but told me the SC manager warned that it would be turned off at the first honk or action. I was too scared to touch anything (imagine venting the pano while they're washing the car!) but was grateful to be able to see that the car was there and charging, and various doors opening and closing. It was like peeking under the tree on Christmas Eve.

Unfortunately they probably had some accidents happen, and put in place a formal system that access wouldn't be available until after delivery. Tesla was a much smaller company then, and they were making up the rules as they went (though they still are to a lesser extent [emoji1]).

And that is kind of cool too. They will sometimes make mistakes, or be more flexible about things. They are not a massive corporation overrun by lawyers. If they were, Autopilot would have never made it out the door. And they would not have had the issue with OH and VA referral programs. Those are good things for us!

On topic: IIRC, my app access was enabled within less than an hour from picking up the car at the factory.

App was active less than 30 minutes after leaving pickup last Monday.

Okay so I got the notifications section in my iOS app to come up long enough last night to get my notifications reset which worked find overnight. Now I can't get back into them to look at my current notifications setup but now that I have them set it's not as big of a deal.

Notifications on mine is acting up the past couple of days as well. I'm receiving them based on past settings; the rest of the app works; but whenever I go to the Notifications screen, the rotating T never ends, so I can't make changes. I've tried signing off and back on; even deleting the app and reinstalling; no success. I'm growing to love my rotating T. :crying: ...and I have the same issue on my iPhone and iPad, and have tried changing my MS to use both WiFi and LTE with no difference in how the app is seeming to be stuck accessing notifications options.

Random questions: Can you turn on the heated steering wheel with the app? What about the headlights?

No on the steering wheel heater. You can flash (not turn on) the headlights.

Thanks. Steering wheel seems like a no brainer. Wonder if they'll get on that anytime soon. My garage is detached, so would be nice to be able to turn the car lights on so I don't trip over all the junk getting to the light switch:)
