Is FSD (NoA) needed for the car to take evasive action on potential side/rear quarter hits?

I ordered a Long Range Model X yesterday. I LOVE NoA and would gladly pay $3,000-$4,000 for it. $6,000... notsomuch.

My AP1 Model S was side swiped (rear quarter) by a hit and run driver on the freeway. Fortunately I had witnesses so I was deemed not at fault. However, I have seen stories posted about (AP3?) cars taking evasive action in similar situations. Also other stories where the car didn't take evasive action, but the AP2+ cameras caught the incident on video.

So my question is will AP3 autopilot (assuming it's turned on) take evasive action from a potential side/rear hit?

Or do you need FSD to take advantage of this safety feature??

Trying to talk myself into spending $6,000 for FSD before delivery.

Supposedly safety features are included FSD or not.

However, I think the side collision avoidance is very hit or miss right now. This happened to me the other day and my FSD optioned Model 3 took zero action and gave me zero warnings. I had to take over from AP.
